If Christian bands are all we’re allowed to listen to, then no wonder more people aren’t Christians.

Anyhoo, I like rock, hard rock, alternative, indie, etc. I’m into a lot of bands that are composed of Christians but are not “Christian bands,” per se. They are incredibly talented and glorify God in a great many ways. They just might never mention “Jesus” in a song by name, but frankly, I’m okay with that. Their lives are a testimony from where I stand, and the message of their music is overwhelmingly positive.

…
you know what this is a good way to go. Just because a band is christian doesnt make them good lyrically or otherwise. And there are those out there who have as you say good things to sing about. There are a few bands out there.

I could plug U2 being obsessed and all. 😃 But they probably are not hard enough although they are loud. What about Disiple? they are pretty hard. And Nickleback has some great songs and others are not. Theres another “christian” band called the Violet Burning, a underground band that doesnt get the airplay. But they are really good, but his music varies on different albums. His inspiration is the Clash etc.

My sis in law has the point you have. that if one looks you can see God speaking in the oddest places, in songs, movies, books. I guess we just have to be paying attention.

btw have a great Christmas or xmas or Christmass 😃

However, we should mention there are some musicians who do seem to lean toward Christianity. I think the Eagles, Creed, and Lenny Kravitz fit this category.

yes those guys too lean. I think that sometimes they dont want a christian label per se because it will limit their audience. U2 is like that definetely, Also, Switchfoot.

Yeah! I never liked Switchfoot, though. The vocals annoyed me a lot… lol To each his own, though.

I like a lot of non-mainstream bands, like Chiodos, Saosin, Paramore, Escape the Fate, BlesstheFall, The Devil Wears Prada, etc., etc.

Most of the time, the messages are good. That’s what matters to me.

I think thats why there is so many types of music. People have different tastes. And myself Im driven by what mood Im in. Im opposite to most when Im getting off work I like to listen to a bit more energetic like greenday or something loud.

and right now its Christmas Carols 😉 even then they are done by different bands too. I think there is more to music reaching us in our brains and soul than we think. Just like if you did listen to say, walking in a winter wonderland, like whats on right now. later on tonight it will come back to me. So if its negative that would be what would come back.

So your right its important to keep lyrics in mind.

🙂

last night i visited a family. i knew they were nice and were also religious. we visited late. then they were to send the kids to bed. they were gonna put off the bedtime prayer but i told them to go on ahead and i’ll pray with them. the long prayer ended, but we visited a little more. their sixteen old daughter was knitting. she seemed quiet. then her dad brought up the music she was listening to on her walkman. this part of the evening made me uncomfortable. the dad jokingly accused her of listening to teenager music. she listened to garth brooks. he does country i guess. the dad was upset by her listening to garth brooks at night in bed at sleeping time. i understand a parent not wanting the kids getting lost in the music the same way you can get lost in a television. this family has a television but its only for watching movies. They do however have the internet, but I know they have lots of long-distant business with friends and family. The dad seemed to not know much about television or music or any of that. he made some garbage up about night time being a sensitive time for your brain. when you are lying in bed in the dark you should only think of God. according to him. he said country music is closely related to rock and roll which aint right. he said music alone in the dark can influence you in bad ways. i was very uncomfortable but it got worse when the sixteen old girl said she didn’t think it made sense. i would say the same thing if i was her. the dad then got mean. this was a nice family but i was seeing how they ganged up on the sixteen old girl and embarrassed her. the dad would not allow himself to be interrupted even though he was just repeating himself stupid like. the sixteen old then brought up that they have watched movies at night before. the dads response to that definitely sounded like a lie. i thought it was interesting that at this time the grandmother was playing with a laptop. she was looking at what looked to me like entertainment. a bunch of pictures with captions or news stories with them probably all lies. i wanted to contribute to the conversation so i talked about my uncle who plays guitar and sings every now and then. i don’t sing i could if i tried. i have a different view of things now that i know how easy it is to scare people with music. 🤷
