I think what we have witnessed here was just another profit-eer claiming to be prophet-seer…
Let us pray his supporters catch up with the old fraud before he disappears with their money!

Pity though that none of them take heed of their bible:

Mt 24:36 But of that day and hour no one knoweth: no, not the angels of heaven, but the Father alone.
You are right. I agree 100%.

My point is that Camping made this mistake because he added to the bible. Whether it was calculations or traditions, it was wrong and his prediction failed. If we let the prophecies define themselves and show us the end, then these things won’t happen.
And my point is that, when you say we are to view the Bible as our only spiritual authority, you are also adding to the Bible. Camping didn’t so much *** to Scripture as ignore it. You are adding doctrines not contained in Scripture.

What doctrines? I proved to you using the bible alone in John 20:30,31 that what we need is written in the bible. You ignored it. Again, what doctrines?

Just thought they wont be very happy Campers today 22 May 2011

😃

You are stuck on the “church” and not the bible. Anyone with one eye can see that you are placing the bible beneath the church. This is hindering you from seeing that the bible alone is all you need.
What anyone can see is that you’re dodging the big questions. Where in the Bible does it say that it is the only source of authority in doctrinal matters and where does it list what books should be in the Bible?

That is a catholic church question and we both know that you will only accept one answer. What’s missing from the bible that keeps one from gaining salvation?

I, for one, will not answer any more of your questions until you answer mine. I have asked you several questions and you have not answered a single one of them. All you do is make ridiculous charges. Is that what you consider Christ-like behavior? I certainly don’t.

Oh, and where in the Bible does it say that nothing can be added? Don’t bother with the Revelation verse, because it says the “words of THIS prophecy” ( emphasis mine). And if you quote OT, you’ll invalidate any scripture written after it, such as the New Testament, a volume we can both agree is God’s word.

Thankfully, you have no say so over my salvation. If you don’t answer, that’s fine. I respect that.

Wow, more dodging. Maybe because there is only one answer that you are unwilling to admit. I’m not a Catholic, but when I seriously looked through the Bible for proof of Sola Scriptura, I couldn’t find it. The Bible may be sufficient for salvation, but as the OP points out, how would you know your interpretation is correct? The best way is to see how those who were discipled by the NT authors interpreted scripture.

This is my last post in this thread, hopefully. I can’t believe you just stated that the bible MAY BE sufficient for salvation but… WOW. You do realize that the bible is the written word of God? In it, we have all that we need, from food for health reasons to prophecies, love and so on. Christ gave us the bible and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, He will lead us to ALL truths. Why do you doubt that to the point of putting your trust in man? If it were not so, He would have told you. See John 14.

By adding to the bible, catholicism becomes your lifestyle, not the life of Jesus. That my friend is truly sad. Remember, if it were not so, He would have told you. All that we need to believe is what He gave us. See John 20.

Keys123, you are missing a fundamental part of the Catholic Church, please allow me you put it in an analogy you will better understand.
A child could be raised without parents and become a upstanding member of society.
BUT
Life would be much harder on that child and lessons will most likely be hard learned. Some of the temporal effects of these lessons learned might have a negative impact on that child. The likely hood of that child getting mixed up with undesirables is greater without any parental guidance.

Logic dictates this to be true…

The Catholic Church is similar to parents, she helps protect from the pitfalls of this world through guidance, examples, and truth.
If you don’t want parents guidance, fine, but you should be ashamed by preaching to others to stray from safety.

The Bible was not even put together when this scripture was written & possibly not even some of the Gospels had been completed.

** 2 Timothy 3:14-17
“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”.**
When Paul used the term “scripture” in this verse for the first time, he could only have meant what we call the Old Testament. The New Testament canon would not be established for another 300 years! “All” scripture does not mean “only” scripture nor specifically what we have in our modern bibles. And , the emphasis in the context of this verse (vereses 14-15) is the trustworthiness of the oral tradition Timothy had received from his mother and others—not sola Scriptura!

2 Thessalonians 2:15
“So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter”.

I think that the case of Mr Harold Camper is a classic example of why the Lord in His Almighty wisdom choose to leave us a teaching authority, The Catholic Church.Without the knowledge and sacred traditions that have been passed down, we would be completely at the mercy of Satan and his cohorts!

Wasn’t Jesus death on the cross and His resurrection sufficient for your salvation? Why do you need the Bible for your salvation. Are you going to be saved by a book? 🤷

Unfortunately, you misread my use of the word “may”, I guess I should have worded it as, “even though the Bible is sufficient”. But I don’t want the bare minimum, the Bible itself says that more happened than what was written, and I want it all. I don’t want a minimal salvation, but a maximal one. Unfortunately your entire response was based on a misinterpretation of my words…oh, I guess that’s ironic…

This I think is my last post. How would we know about His death if we didn’t have the bible. You just proved my point. What is in the bible is all that we need to believe. 🙂 We need to know about His death and resurrection, therefore it is in there. See my point?

How would you have the Bible without the Catholic Church. You just proved MY point.

The Church taught His death and resurrection before they wrote it down, so I’m guessing that had they not wrote it down, it would continue to be taught orally. So your argument that we wouldn’t know about it if it wasn’t written in the Bible doesn’t really prove anything.

You’re point isn’t that the Bible is enough, we would all agree with that. Your point is that it is forbidden to believe anything about the faith that is not in the Bible. You have failed to show where the Bible says this. The verse from John simply explains why he took the time to write his account of the Gospel. Sola Scriptura is not a biblical belief, therefore you are adding to the Bible.
