I tried to log on to ask a question, but I got a message saying I don’t have access to it, yet. I’m not sure why, but maybe it’s because I just joined. Anyway, maybe other people can answer it for me.

In the Harrowing of Hell, did Jesus go to save all the righteous people who died before he died? Or just the good Jewish people? What constituted a righteous person?

Christ opened the gates of heaven to all righteous people, not just Jews. God is the perfect judge of righteousness but it would include, in general, all virtuous and Christ-like men. An example of saved non-Jews might be the Magi.

Giuseppe,

Thank you for your wisdom. That really helped a lot, and it eases my mind. It’s how I was leaning anyway, but it’s nice to know somebody else thinks so, too! One of the things I really like about our Catholic faith is how inclusive it can be. Thank you for answering my question.

Below the Ask an Apologist tab, there is a smaller one: ‘Ask your question here’. Click that to ask an apologist, the main tab is only for the answers.

As for the question Christ virtually saved all people from Adam and Eve to the one whose immortal soul will be created just before His second coming. Anyone who does not rejects Him is saved. Does who reject him are not saved. Those who never reached maturity probably all are saved due to Christ grace either before or after his death.

Adam, Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac were not Jews, and they are respected members of the triumphant Church.
