On March 17, two weeks before his appointment to the advisory council, Knox published a statement on the Human Rights Campaign Web site in reaction to Pope Benedict XVI’s remarks concerning condoms and AIDS in Africa. The statement partly reads: “The Pope’s statement that condoms don’t help control the spread of HIV, but rather condoms increase infection rates, is hurting people in the name of Jesus. …On a continent where millions of people are infected with HIV, it is morally reprehensible to spread such blatant falsehoods. The pope’s rejection of scientifically proven prevention methods is forcing Catholics in Africa to choose between their faith and the health of their entire community. Jesus was about helping the marginalized and downtrodden, not harming them further.”

· In reference to a bishop’s instruction that a lesbian couple in Cheyenne, Wy., could not receive communion at the Catholic Mass, Knox, in an Apr. 6, 2007 statement on the HRC’s Web site, wrote: **“In this holy Lenten season, it is immoral and insulting to Jesus to use the body and blood of Christ the reconciler as a weapon to silence free speech and demean the love of a committed, legally married couple.…The Human Rights Campaign grieves with the couple, Leah Vader and Lynn Huskinson, over this act of spiritual and emotional violence perpetrated against them.” **

· In reaction to the Vatican’s refusal to sign a U.N. agreement that called for decriminalizing homosexuality and equating all sexual orientations, Knox and the HRC signed a statement with other pro-homosexual groups that read, in part: **“As faith leaders we were shocked by Vatican opposition to this proposed initiative….By refusing to sign a basic statement opposing inhumane treatment of LGPT people, the Vatican is sending a message that violence and human rights abuses against LGBT people are acceptable. Many are speaking out against this immoral stance in the name of religion.” **

· In March 2009, the HRC launched a new, interactive Web site called EndtheLies.org designed **“to confront right-wing lies and distortions repeatedly used to defeat LGBT equality measures.” The wall features an image of Pope Benedict XVI and this statement: “Pope Benedict XVI has called same-sex relationships ‘a destruction of God’s work,’ opposed a U.N. resolution decriminalizing homosexuality, and claimed in March 2009 that the use of condoms increases HIV infections.” **

· Mar. 19, 2009: The Bay Area Reporter in San Francisco quoted Knox as following, “The Knights of Columbus do a great deal of good in the name of Jesus Christ, but in this particular case [Proposition 8], they were foot soldiers of a discredited army of oppression.

· The newspaper further reported:** “Knox noted that the Knights of Columbus ‘followed discredited leaders,’ including bishops and Pope Benedict XVI. ‘A pope who literally today said condoms don’t help in control of AIDS.’” **

· Knox told CNSNews.com that he “absolutely” stands by his criticism of the pope. ** “The Pope needs to start telling the truth about condom use,” Knox said on Monday, Apr. 6. “We are eager to help him do that. Until he [Pope Benedict] is willing to do that and able, he’s doing a great deal more harm than good – not just in Africa but around the world. It is endangering people’s lives.**

Harry Knox is the director of the Religion and Faith Program of the Human Rights Campaign. He’s a former licensed Methodist pastor. He’s gay. He’s a member of the Obama administration’s Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

There is a very strong correlation between the supporters of homosexuality and the “zero-population-growth” crowd and a sure link between their passive desire to limit human procreation and their active inclination to engage in population* reduction* which fully explains why people like Knox can’t see what the Pope clearly can see: a culture of abstinence would reduce the need for the condoms *and the actual use of condoms among people who are too poor to be able to afford them is not reliable. * Promotion of condoms involves promotion of sexual activity, failure of condoms to actually prevent aids involves increase of rate of infection.

Knox wants to characterize the Catholic point of view as an immoral weapon but I, personally, believe Knox and his ilk are encouraging genocide. And I think Knox knows that genocide is what he is doing with the condom campaign.

The way to avoid the increase of abortions is to not have an abortion. The way to avoid the spread of AIDS is to not have sex with someone who has AIDS. The way to be sure to avoid these things in general is to not fornicate.

Handing out condoms encourages mortal sin. If a maniac is running around throwing grenades at the police, you don’t hand him a sniper rifle so that he takes out fewer innocent bystanders. You try to stop him from doing the evil he intended to do in the first place.

This even applies to married couples. If you don’t want any more children, don’t have sex. It’s not like people are having sex by accident, so it’s pretty easy to avoid doing.

That ‘visectomy’ is immoral in Catholic teaching anyway (unless for health reasons, then abstinence should be the norm afterwards)

they are both evil. it serves no good to use one evil to prevent another.

there is a reason why the CC has spoke against contraception and still does it. back when the Church spoke against contraception no one could understand why, today we do.
contraception is a thing of the pagans. in the old days, when the rich people did not want to have children. magicians would make portions to control preganancy. it is an evil then and it is evil now. it destroys the dignity of human beings.

we should never side with umbelievers against the Church. ever.

I’m sorry I can’t reconcile this. Realistically, even though we might not want it to happen people will have sex out of marriage and I’d rather have people use condoms to protect themselves. Not all will abstain it’s an unfortunate fact of life. And even though I’m personally against abortion I know people will get them and would rather a girl use contraception to avoid that all together. In a perfect world these things wouldn’t happen, but our world is far from perfect. Now, personally I would encourage a woman to keep the child but you have to realize not all will.

What is unrealistic is to assume that human beings are mere animals who cannot control our basest desires. Abstinence encourages us to think outside of our base desires and consider the long-term consequences of our actions.

Abortion, contraception and sterilization are all the natural consequences of the flawed assumption that people cannot control their own bodily urges.

Furthermore, our campaigns to distribute contraceptives to poor people and people in third world countries again necessarily assumes that these people are “too stupid” or “too animalistic” to be educated to abstain. It’s really quite demeaning.

Some of the Church’s greatest Saints were raised in abject poverty by parents who couldn’t “afford” them.

How thankful I am that their parents embraced the Church’s call to abide by the truth.
