Here’s the problem, though.
Gender has turned into “whatever the person says at the moment they say it”.

Which would be all well and good, except the activists want to use the force of law to make everybody else comply.

I’m old enough to have seen all sorts of narratives and theories come and go.

I have no compelling reason to buy into this one.

smirk I hope this is humor, but the way things go when people get bored tells me it isn’t.
sarcastic, even.

Although it could be a way to divide restrooms . . . but the pictographs would be a serious problem. 😱 🤯 😱

( I recall years ago that the city of Santa Cruz put up a “Peace Tree” at Christmastime, for all the “men and gyno-americans” to gather around . . . it’s the inspiration for my term, but today would get them in trouble for something-phobia or -ist/-ism)

The “cabela’s” outdoor store has the restrooms labeled “pointers” and “setters” along with “men” and “women” under those. (There are dog pictures on each door entryway also)

I feel like I need a memorization deck to keep up with even 15% of the acceptable terms… I try to be accepting… but I’m not that good

Seems by design. No matter what you choose, you’re wrong and will be chastised for your insensitivity and/or hate. It’s a mess.

I am having a difficult time understanding this: The world is in an almost backwards state. Instead of trying to get people help with a mental issue, society wants to allow that person to keep their problem. Additionally they would have everyone else adapt to accept that problem, and act out against anyone who attempts to help the person. The helper would be branded as -phobic, intolerant, or whatever else.
We have “a jumper” on a ledge, someone wanting to help, with bystanders urging the person to jump. If your child, while playing Superman is found standing on the roof of your house, you get them down safely. You do not encourage them to be Superman.
How has this even been considered to be acceptable?
This world really needs help.
Pray for us all.

I’ve been following this story the last couple days and I’m amazed at how her fanbase (many of whom credit JKR with making them liberal and socially aware) have turned on her.

A good warning maybe not to make idols of people.
Interestingly there’s become an increasing movement in the UK to distance the LGB from the T as lesbian women feel they are losing their voice and identity as women and gay men are being told they are transphobic if they were to refuse to contemplate a relationship with a trans-man (female to male).

T has always had an uneasy relationship with LGB.

Over 20 years ago I had a conversation with somebody transitioning to F who told me that gay men felt that T issues were getting mixed up in popular opinion with gay issues, plus the sensationalism of show like Jerry Springer were making all non-straight people look bad.

The online Harry Potter fandom, especially the fanfic writers, has always been extremely enamored of shipping slash pairings and proving their progressive bona fides.

Which is strange because the HP books and movies were extremely squeaky clean. No sex, no teen pregnancy, nobody living together. Not even a divorced and remarried couple.
But the fans read all sorts of stuff into them and wrote the fanfic accordingly.

I’m really surprised that JKR’s most recent explanation, where she talks about being a sexual assault victim and wanting female safe spaces has not garnered any sympathy.
Back in the day, being a sexual assault victim would make people sympathetic. Not anymore.

But LOL Daniel Radcliff mansplaining why JKR is wrong 🤣🤣🤣

This group really has no trouble when it comes to eating their own. Even if they agree on everything, yet differ on a small detail, its schism.

I have no idea why people who are as well-off as JK Rowling or Hollywood stars would feel a need to share an opinion on every little thing unless it relates directly to promoting their next book or film. In which case I would expect them to be working with their studio, publisher, or marketing professional before they open their big yap. A lot of these folks seem to have either terrible judgment and no filter, or else they have huge egos and really see their opinions as important to share.

If I were “famous” as some of these folks are, I would not have any social media. Nor would I give interviews about all what’s on my mind. It’s not anyone’s business.

I get what you’re saying. However if their celebrity status can help a cause they care about I can see why they do it. For example if I was famous and felt that being openly pro life would benefit the pro life movement I would be in a heartbeat. However it has to be balanced with the risk of losing people who disagree that may be reachable through your work.

To be honest, I find it hard to feel sorry for her. She’s pretty leftist and vocal about it -which is fine-but then don’t complain when the mob that you helped fuel and create comes for you. She should have known better. The mob came for Robespierre too.

Seeing those statements from a leftist helps confirm the Catholic view, so I think it’s great that she’s willing to say it.

In terms of the impact of her statement she can afford to lose her fans, and I think the film and books she is working on are still likely to do well (or not be massivly impacted by it).

Anything else, not tied to Harry Potter may be a problem but I think Potter will always sell.

I am sorry for the sexual abuse and any verbal abuse she has suffered.

Yes, I read an article today about this. It was very easy for the author of the article to put a label on JK Rowling and put her in the TERF box to rot. Like a “deplorable”. Like she’s less than human because she’s a TERF.

I have a hard time figuring out how someone can be romantically attracted to women but sexually attracted to men (or vice versa). These two aren’t synonyms but they usually go hand in hand. I’ll say a prayer for those where this is not hand in hand because it must be a very hard cross to carry.

I hope she doesn’t back down.
A lot of people she thought were friends have turned their back on her.

It’s like watching who’s going to “blink” first.
