A thread to have a non-critical in-universe discussion of Harry Potter. That is to say, a place to ask in-universe questions, and hopefully get some answers to them. This is NOT a thread to argue whether or not HP is good from a Christian perspective, from a literature perspective, or from any perspective really.

My first question: Why did Harry drop the Resurrection Stone after he’d taken it out of the Snitch?

@Roguish, I was reading through the thread about yoga when you linked to here and I couldn’t believe I’d missed it! I hope you don’t mind me resurrecting it.

My first question: Why did Harry drop the Resurrection Stone after he’d taken it out of the Snitch?

When Harry takes it out the snitch, he knows he’s about to die - that’s why he can get it out in the first place. He walks to where Voldemort is with his mother, father, Sirius and Lupin and when he gets there, (according to the book) it “slips from his numb fingers”.So really, it was accidental.

Perhaps we should put a spoilers warning in the title

Hm, true too, but still I wonder if it was a “meaningful accident”. Perhaps someone will find it in sequels yet to be written.

There has been a lot of debate on that - when I was looking for the exact quote, I saw a lot of it!

I do doubt that. Later on, Harry tells Dumbledore that he dropped the Stone in the forest and he thought it best not to go looking for it. J K Rowling has said since she envisioned it being trampled by a centaur’s hoof and buried into the ground. Who knows, though!
