I have all seven of the books.Could point me out some page numbers in these books that reflect what you said above? That would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
It never fails someone starts screaming about how christian the novels are.Personal I think Silvername and Eugene should meet since they both seem to know more about these books then those of us who have read them. If you like Fiction then read the books and after the 7th you give me examples of whats un- christian. Otherwise please leave the discussion to those who can actually give an opinion.

P.S. The movies do not do the books justice. I’ve re-read the books multiply times and have enjoyed the movies but don’t re-watch them.

So I take it your parents let you read the books?

The books ‘mature’ as they go along. They’re designed to show Harry’s growth, and I think (depending on the kid) that the 8-10 crowd could easily read and understand the first two books.
.
This is what I was going to say!!
Harry is 11 in the first book. J K Rowlings herself has said, that she feels that children younger than Harry is, in any given book, should NOT read the book, until they are that age.
I think this is a good rule of thumb.

As far s the movies, I think, because the visuals can be so dramatic, that more caution is required, beyond just age…Different kids will react differently. I would err on the side of caution…

At age 8 I could easily have read ALL the books with no prob. But the movies would have scared me!

Your mileage may vary. 😃

Jesus? Would you like some popcorn?
Have all the books.
Will have all the movies.
My kids are fine and dandy thank you.
A parent has to judge for their own children.

I second the sailor …

Jesus… would you like extra butter on yours?
👍

Love the books and, hey, I even enjoy the movies (even if they aren’t nearly as good as the books). I would suggest, however, that young children would probably enjoy reading the first 3 as the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th get darker and darker with each chapter.

However, when I was a reading tutor those 5th graders were serious Potter readers. And they were serious about it…they practically analyzed it. I think the Potter books are responsible for bringing the reading craze back into children. Now there are countless new series out there for kids to read and they love all of them. I think it is wonderful.

The books are great…they have adventure and mystery and fantasy. Rowling combined so much into her books. And I don’t think sacrificing one’s self for the sake of another would be considered anti-Christian. And what was it that Voldemort said caused him to be unable to kill Harry Potter from the beginning? Wasn’t it LOVE?

I think the first film is great!!! That is what got me into the Harry Potter craze so it was a treat when I realized that the books were a millions times better. I think the first would be a good one to show to young children…it’s so magical and fun (but, yes, with a few scary bits).

Not sure Silvername would put up such a fuss…unless of course Harry is a homosexual. 😃
