You do understand, I trust, that in Tolkien’s mythos, beings like Sauron and Gandalf are angels (well, strictly speaking, Sauron would be a fallen angel), and that in fact Tolkien considered his mythos a “Catholic” work. The good guys, including the Valar, were all monotheists.“Occult fiction. Definition. Used for works dealing with witchcraft, spiritualism, psychic phenomena, voodooism, etc., and for works dealing with the mysterious or secret knowledge and power supposedly attainable only through these and other magical or supernatural means.”
Its all occult nonsense. Who even cares!Lovinglight:![]()

So, Jo Rowling managed to created “actual” working spells from bits of Latin? Who made these work? Why doesn’t Accio work for me? Is it the same reason I can’t fly on a broom, maybe? The reason the spells work in HP is because the wizards and witches are born with it. On a rare occasion a child born into a magical family won’t have magical ability no matter how hard they try. That is why this isn’t occult and why the spells aren’t real to anyone outside of the HP universeWhat makes a spell real is that it is actually effectual.
A spell that is effectual is one that presumably uses præternatural forces to do things. This would mean demonic forces.
So, if there is a spell or what not that takes advantage of præternatural forces, then it is real.
A good many people, judging by book sales. But as I suspected, you know nothing about the topic (and no, going by the LotR movies is not a suitable introduction). I will, however, leave you to the security of your ignorance on the topic at hand. I don’t think there’s anything to gained as you gleefully insult a beloved writer who it appears you’ve never even read.niceatheist:![]()

Sort of like accusing JRR Tolkien, a fellow Catholic, of writing a work of the occult, no?Bruised_Reed:![]()
Attacking my character now huh. How Christian of u.Lovinglight…not feeling the love, not seeing the light.
I had the deep misfortune of watching the film (well, to be honest, I spent much of the time surfing my phone in my jacket), and was informed that much of the dialogue was lifted from the book. So I can inform you that not only was it smut, but it sounded like smut written by a 14 year old. If you’re going to make smut, at least put some effort into it.LOL, I haven’t read 50 Shades of Grey, or Twilight, either.
The former because it’s smut, from what I’ve heard (yes, from what I’ve heard, not personally experienced),
