Ghosts are intriguing in Harry Potter. In it, ordinary human beings cannot become ghosts, only wizards who are so afraid of death that they choose to remain in that form rather than go on, although there is nothing for them to enjoy in human life anymore.Wizards also have saints if you remember the magical hospital’s name…
Then there’s the fat friar! Presumably he’s still undergoing his purgatory - or he’s already a saint and God let him stick around to help out his fellow Hufflepuffs!
One wonders what ultimately becomes of Moaning Myrtle, Nearly Headless Nick etc. Does ghosthood become their Purgatory? Or is it final for them?
Do ghosts become the prey of dementors? Remember, they suck the soul from living human beings. One would think the ghost an easier prey, with no solid body in the way.
