Hi I saw this " credit card rosary" online

shop.catholicsupply.com/store/p/25135-Credit-Card-Rosary.aspx

And thought I’d ask folk here if they had prayed with it and whether its easy to pray something like a rosary / divine mercy chaplet with it?

im in two minds of whether or not to buy it as it sure would be convenient for slipping in a pocket but I don’t know if it would be easy to pray with without getting muddled and losing track of what “bead” I should be praying on… 😃

what do you all think of it? Is it something you have or would get?..

God bless you all 🙂

It’s really a pretty neat idea. That being said, I’ll keep my “traditional” rosary in my pocket and use it to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy while I’m walking to and from wherever I’m going and I think a rectangular piece of plastic would be pretty cumbersome for doing this. That being said, I’m all for making prayer as accessible as possible to people and, if this helps people carry around a rosary, it’s definitely a good thing.

I kept thinking how cumbersome it would be at first, but then I realized you don’t have to rotate it like you would a traditional rosary. This would be about ideal for walking around and praying with a rosary in your pocket, really. I agree with you that I would have some difficulty keeping track of what bead I’m on, but a few extra prayers here and there can never hurt. It would be helpful to give the “beads” alternating textures or something to distinguish one from the other.

Over the years we’ve received many of these with begging letters from Catholic organizations. I’ve always just thrown them away. I can’t imagine paying $1.95+s&h for one!

If you don’t want to deal with a full-size rosary, a 1-decade rosary works well. I’ve also seen ring rosaries, but not having used one, don’t know how well they work.

I agree. I’ve seen the CC type rosary before but don’t think I would really have a practical use for it.

If it was the only thing I had available, then yes. But otherwise I think a single decade or ring would be better.

Use your fingers. I read an article about James Foley (journalist who was killed by ISIS) wherein he said that he prayed the rosary using his fingers. Now when I am in a situation, walking usually, where I do not want to pull out the full rosary I use my fingers and say a little prayer for him.

I wouldn’t use one myself, but if others find it helpful, they can have at it. 🙂

I’ve never been one for rosary rings or bracelets or single-decade rosaries either, though. For me, a regular-sized rosary is easy enough to carry around. My wife made me one from nylon rope that I can carry around in my pocket all the time.

And the one decade nylon ones are indestructible.

My thought is this: This product is not only awkward, but it counters what we SHOULD be doing in this era when Catholics are supposed to be out evangelizing and proclaiming our faith. Why should we use a rosary credit card or a 10 studded rosary ring instead of the real deal? Are we really so concerned about others seeing us pray in public or what?

I say be bold about your faith and don’t hide what you’re doing. Therefore I see no practical use for this product.

if it make a difference between saying the rosary and not saying rosary, why not get it? Not exactly traditional but saying the prayer is the most important thing compared to not saying it at all.

The beads are comforting, imho.
Yes, they are. Once I was praying with my beads (or I should say, saying my beads as beads means prayers!) at the dentist. After he stuck his hand in my mouth he said the assistant, “Look, she has her worry beads.”

I saw these credit card rosaries for sale at the shop at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Queen of the Universe in Orlando. They were about $1.50 each if I remember.

I contemplated buying one, figuring it I could just keep it in my wallet in case I ever needed it and forgot the actual rosary I normally carry. However, the raised “beads” are tiny and really close together, so I figured it would be too easy to skip beads or lose my place.

I actually love the idea of a credit card rosary but S and H was 7.95 plus the rosary cost making in too costly for me. Too bad we couldn’t get a huge group CAF discount 🙂

Mary,.

Personally I wouldn’t, looks too fiddly to keep track of which bead you are on. I carry a backpack just about everywhere I go, and my Rosary beads live in the front pouch so I always have them available. If I don’t, I just use my fingers.
