My fiance and I are signed up for an all-day session in June. I hear it’s something new, but will become required in addition to pre-cana soon? But for now, either God’s Plan or pre-cana will satisfy the requirement. Has anyone been to one? Since it’s new, I’m somewhat apprehensive. Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is basically a class on Theology of the Body through the lens of Christopher West.

We did both. I think both are important but for different reasons. But God’s Plan really did a lot of good. Especially for hubs. It completely sold my Agnostic husband on NFP. He really didn’t pay attention to the lecture but he had finished the entire book by the time we were ready to drive home.

He was always open to Catholic teachings but this was the first time he was exposed to just how well thought out and reasoned a lot of our teachings about sexuality are. He admitted that if you accept the initial premise as true and look at the supporting arguments there really is no logical choice but to say the Church is right when it comes to sex and marriage…and even the all-male clergy by extension.

Now he still doesn’t totally buy into the original premise or else he’d be converting. But he does a bit disturbed when people simply write off our teaching as nothing more than oppression as opposed to something we’ve had 2000 years to really think about. He gives the Church a lot more credit than before.

As we were leaving the building he was going “WHY didn’t we get this in [our Catholic] high school!?”

For a while he was a bigger cheerleader for NFP than I was. Some people were all “Wait…I get your wife isn’t on the pill but YOU don’t use anything?!”

hmm…not really.

God’s plan for a joy filled marriage is a comprehensive marriage prep program that has both sacramental marriage formation as well as life skills. This is through the Theology of the Body lens (as all catechesis is recommended to be now).

its not “through the lens of Christopher West”.

The current program is Damon Owens speaking.

West wrote the text though. And our lecture was conducted by two couples in the diocese.

Granted this was 5 years ago so things might have changed but it was under the same name.

The life skills portion was added last year.
