Has anyone else here used "Bible Gateway"?

I like Bible Gateway.

I also like Croswalk very much except that it seems to have a lot of annoying popups - if you have a good popup-blocker it is quite good. I especially like the Greek and Hebrew tools there. It has several versions including D-R and I thought it had RSV but I may be wrong. A couple of the commentaries are good - most are not.

Also good is DRBO for a basic search tool.

I like this (non-Catholic) site even better than Crosswalk; it’s got a few more versions of the Bible.

As for the D-R: one of the best sites right now is that at newadvent.org; it gives the D-R with the Clementine (not the Stuttgart!) Vulgate on the same page.

That site has been the cause of so much confusion it’s not funny. The RSV-CE is copyright-protected and is not in the public domain.

Hm…I did not know that. Thanks for the info. That’s a real bummer…I thought I had access to it online. Oh well, I still have it in hard copy anyway.:rolleyes:

Are you sure this isn’t the protestant version of the RSV? the telling parts are the list of books initially that has the 7 books of the OT that they removed listed as the apochrypha. This also from the Gospel of Luke 1:
[28] And he came to her and said, "Hail, O favored one, the Lord is with you!"
In my hard copy of RSV-CE I’m pretty sure it says Full of Grace.

I do not recognize either of your names, so you must be new to this Forum; we’re happy you’ve joined us, but you must try to understand that the RSV-CE is NOT ONLINE, no matter what the hosting site alleges. If you have a book copy, check out some of the passages unique to the Catholic Edition; you’ll find they are not in the online editions of the RSV.

Sorry, but that’s just the way it is, even for EWTN.

I use the afore mentioned link when I am in a hurry. I did not think about it being only RSV and not RSV CE.

I still think this link has some value for comparisons between translations as long as one is aware that it is not RSV CE.

OK, I checked out a “catholic verse” on EWTN’s version of the “RSV-Catholic” and it turns up this:

Luke 1:28

28 And he came to her and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!”

Seems ok to me comparing to my Ignatius 2nd Edition RSV-CE. So is EWTN lying or did they merely Catholic-ize certain parts of the regular RSV for their website?

Sorry about this post. I was unaware that the link was to a RSV only translation. It can still help in a pinch for a quick comparison.

EWTN would not knowingly lie or attempt to deceive, but it would appear that whoever created that bible for their web site did “Catholicize certain parts of the regular RSV”.

Other verses to check: Romans 5:5; 8:11; if in these verses the Holy Spirit is referred to as “which” instead of “who”, then it’s the regular RSV.

If the RSV-CE, Romans 9:5 should read “Christ, who is God over all, blessed for ever. Amen.”
 
I use the search feature on BibleGateway quite a bit, it’s really not so bad once you go through the trouble of setting it up to show the Septuagint and all that jazz… Good quick reference resource I guess.

But for more routine stuff, the version on NewAdvent is great!
