Has anyone ever felt a persistent call to pray for a celebrity or known person?

I have been having a really persistent thought for some weeks to pray for a celebrity who is deceased. I have had this thought about 10 or 15 times now, I then keep forgetting to add them to my prayer list, but the thought keeps coming back. I am adding them to the list right now before I forget again.

The celebrity is not someone I’m a particular big fan of, I like them okay and they wrote some good songs including one about Jesus, but I don’t think about them very much in general, so it’s a bit odd.

Anybody else have this happen where you suddenly feel called to pray for someone who’s normally not really on your radar?

I often find myself drawn to praying for the souls of people famously known as evil. So I often pray for Judas and Hitler. I haven’t added them to my prayer list, but perhaps I shall.

So I don’t find your situation particularly odd.

Thanks for the reminder, I was reading about Stalin and his bad death and how he was so sad when his first wife died and I meant to pray for him too. He’s not the person I was talking about in my first post but he also needs prayers.
Just to note I pray for probably 80 percent ordinary unknown people like relatives or people whose obits I find so it’s not all about famous people for me or anything 🙂

I have. I ended up requesting a series of Gregorian Masses for an actor who was famous several decades before I was born.

So just to update on this, I did an indulgence for the person, offered one Mass I attended, and requested another Mass be said for them. Might have put them in a Rosary intentions or two also.
This morning I realized I hadn’t had that persistent thought about them in days.
Hope that means their need for prayers was properly met.

There was a musician who killed himself who found his way into my prayers a while back. I’ve been slacking on my prayer journal, but I felt like he probably didn’t have a whole lot of people praying for him in life or death, so I did.

Celebrities are people who are blessed by God to be able to share the talents He gave them with the world.

I pray for them as I do for everyone else.

This is a big aspect of your vocation, Bear. The souls in purgatory know this, and so here is a person who has showed up on your front door. What a great spiritual work of charity you do, interceding for, gaining indulgences for souls.

Thank you for the encouragement, Jamal. It’s something I can do because I can do it from anywhere, I don’t have to be in one place/ one parish to do it. So I hope it helps someone.

Jamal, that’s a very insightful observation about our Ursan friend.

Tis, Jamal nailed it. That is what you DO, and it’s a powerful call.

I’m not sure if you have an interest in books that are private revelation, but I really enjoyed this one, though it’s been a long while since I read it. It concerns the souls in purgatory and an Austrian woman’s unique vocation who was said to actually see poor souls who would come to her and ask for various things so that they might be freed from purgatory. Maria Simma is the woman who was purported to see these souls.

The book is titled, “Get Us Out of Here” by Nicky Eltz.
