Has anyone ever said this to you?

There’s a reason religious people can be so horrible - & C. S. Lewis (among others) put his finger on it. .the worst corruption, is the corruption of what is best. He gives the devil as an example. So, the better, nobler, more wonderful a virtue is, the more horrible its corruption is: love gone bad is worse than patience gone bad. .

hmm… that’s interesting… i don’t suppose you recall what CS Lewis book that is from?

I heard something similar some yrs ago… I guess it is kind of like that saying The bigger they are, the harder they fall??

Anyway, this all reminds me of something, but i probably should keep it to myself…

Are you really young? I mean, your Mom can still make you do stuff?? that’s cool… no matter your age… that you seem to listen to your Mom… I know a lot of young people who disrespect their parents… it’s awful… seems to be a trend these days

Well I’m not exactly a mama’s boy but there are certain things (like praying the rosary) when all it takes is one command from her and I’d do it . Besides, I really wanna help defend the Faith. I don’t wanna look hypocritical.

so you have another admirable quality: you are humble… I hate when people think their interpretation of the Bilble is the exact right one every time…

Hmm… well my thoughts on scripture are pretty much mixed. However, you’re right about those fundamentalists who say their interpretation of the Bible is the superior one. They can be really hateful and intolerant bigots . They’re my number one reason why I just don’t take a Bible and start reading. Though I admit it does give room for other things I’d like to do (e.g. writing my stories is one example ), I’m more than willing to discuss portions of the Bible as long as I can consult with someone/something from the Church as my guide.

Yeah, isn’t that strange… how that ignorance and bigotry can affect you? I have often felt the same way… that i didn’t even want to open the Bible because, well, it would be kinda too “protestant”… And in a way, that isn’t as narrow-minded as it sounds… because hearing the word of God @ Mass is far superior to reading it yourself… I remember this one time i read the Bible at home… I came to this part where God did something i couldn’t understand (ordered the murder of a whole nation??something like that). I found my faith slipping away… something that never happens @ Mass. I felt fear coming over me when my faith started “ebbing”… but then, immediately, i recalled to mind how i felt while @ Church, how i always encountered the Real Presence while there… and of course, my faith was renewed… I made up my mind then and there to… well, to just “be Catholic about the Bible” …

(Now i realize that God had to take serious measures to wipe out the plague of idolatry… that threatened His people…)
