Yep. This has also happened to me. The smell of roses is somewhat a widespread phenomenon in the Catholic Church. Many people I have met have smelled roses while praying the Rosary. The name Rosary comes from the Latin ‘Rosarium’ meaning rose garden. It is thought of as a bouquet of roses offered to Our Lady. It has been noted that if you smell roses when praying, it is a reassurance from Our Lady that your prayers have been heard.

The smell of roses also lingers among some of the more visible miracles of the Church. It is often smelled coming off of the bodies of incorrupt saints. I have personally smelled roses coming from the body of St. John XXIII at St. Peter’s Basilica, who is incorrupt and whose casket is open to the air around it via vents which let out the smell of roses. When St. Cecelia’s tomb was opened and she was found incorrupt after 1500 years, the witnesses smelled roses. Some Eucharistic miracles have been accompanied with the smell of roses. Traditionally, when you pray to St. Therese of the Child Jesus, and your prayer will be answered, you will either come across an unexpected flower or smell flowers, usually roses. This last one has also happened to me.

You’ve also been to medjugorji?? It’s lovely isn’t it I’m going again in may 2019 it’s just like my mum said medjugorji always calls you back

I have never smelt a Rose while praying the rosary or the St. Therese novena and although it is something i ll love to experience, I believe Our Lady intercedes for me powerfully when I pray the rosary and my prayers will be answered, maybe not the way I expect, but in other ways. What I do feel when praying the rosary is inner peace and hope, which I cannot feel otherwise. So people who do not have the grace to smell roses or see flowers when praying the rosary or St. Therese Novena should not feel their prayers are not answered.

I’ve been aware of a perfume whilst praying the rosary but it wasn’t roses and I assumed it was coming from the rosary itself, because it’s secondhand, or coming from my recently washed hands and the metal chains. One evening I did smell a strong perfume though which again wasn’t roses but strong and it lasted for several hours.

Yes, and the latest one was not while I was praying the rosary…I was just having a conversation with God, at the beach, with the sea breeze coming in from the water. Definitely no roses around, but I smelled them. I was also told this was Mary’s smell…but I wasn’t even thinking about Mary. It’s a nice creepy sensation, but I wish somebody would tell me what it was all about, because if there was a message there, I totally missed it.

It’s a gift, a confirmation that your prayers are heard, a lovely thing. I’m very happy for you 😊

I have no idea what roses smell like - lol
I’ve been to a greenhouse - with all sorts of flowers -
I know that smell - and of mint.
Consider yourself SUPER fortunate - for such moments.
It’s also a nice sharing -
As believers, we must remember, such things.
They give solace and consolment in times of desert dryness.

Unfortunately I’ve not had the joy of smelling roses during a rosary or a visit to a saint’s relics or tomb 😦

St Therese has sent me roses twice though when I asked her very important questions. She sent them in an amusing way both times - they were not real flowers but were pictures or artificial roses seen in unusual or very appropriate places. I think she was having a little joke with me

I had s similar experience with St. Therese. On Day 1 of a novena I was praying for the intercession of St. Therese, a friend who did not know at that time I was praying the novena sent me a picture of St. Therese with flowers and a cross and she wrote…i quote…’‘look whom i have found, the little flower’’. I was like…noo…wayyyy…It was an interesting experience. Little things like this make us feel very loved by God.
