Has anyone had any bad experiences with Ouija boards?

I was introduced to the Ouija board in religion class. Our teacher, a priest, brought it in to show us that there was nothing to them. Belief in them was superstitious and if you put no store in them it was alright to play around with it.

For me, his lesson took hold. I do not take any of this stuff seriously. Unfortunately, there were others in school that became involved with occult. I had one friend who did automatic writing. Yes I did it with her because, as the priest had taught us, it was only a game not to be taken seriously, That’s the rub. There were some despite what the priest told them took it seriously. The girl that did auto writing did not end well.

Unfortunately there is “something to them.” As mentioned earlier in this thread, a famous case of possession in the US was the result of a child’s tinkering with a Ouija board.

The deliverance ministry that I volunteer with counsels quite a few people with issues of demonization that are a result of involvement in the occult - tarot cards, ouija boards, voodoo, etc. Each of these things opens doors to the demonic and is an invitation to big problems. I don’t think teaching kids there is “nothing to the Ouija board” is a good approach. That’s like teaching kids to avoid drugs by saying there’s “nothing to drugs.”

Play around with it? How is that done? The point and the only likely thing to do with the board is to place one’s fingers on the pointer and relax and wait to see if anything will happen. If not, it becomes boring. Then one goes into a slow mental state, with far less left-brain activity, from boredom and relaxation, and the senses sharpen and the mental defenses drop. This is a spiritually vulnerable state. Then something usually happens. After the first time, the slow mental state is unnecessary because whatever has been invited is still there and the open inviation stands. I don’t know how it is possible to enter that state in that situation without becoming endangered. And I don’t know how it is possible to entertain oneself long sitting there with one’s fingers resting lightly on a piece of plastic for no reason knowing nothing will happen and making sure nothing can happen. It’s not a game. It’s either communication with unknown beings or sitting there doing nothing at all. That’s all. If you want a game, get Scrabble or Boggle or Monopoly, or learn a card game.

Because of the way the board is made, it is meant to move with the slightest shiver of a hand. If you take it seriously, that is believing that something can happen that is not of this world than, that is when evil spirits are invited in. I never had a bad experience. I knew how to make it move without the other person realizing it. It was a joke to me. Bad things happened only when one believed in it. That was the point the priest was making. It is only plastic and cardboard. Don’t put your belief in it.

It sometimes moves when no one is touching it, which also happens with homemade boards made of heavier, less slippery things.

Ha, that reminds me of when I was home alone for two months while my parents were on holiday!

During the night, I’d hear the roof making sounds; I’d hear plastic containers moving, or hitting the tiled floor. Since I usually sleep on my side, I’ve experience no less than two occasions where I’ve felt someone gently shaking my shoulder/arm until I would wake up. I would also feel a small burst of air against my face as if someone were deliberately blowing right into me and I’ve woken up in the middle of the night after a sensation of someone either jumping on my bed, or shaking the mattress…

Also, since it was during Christmas, we of course had the Christmas tree up and it’s really scary to witness a bit of tinsel moving by itself, in a regular, non-stop motion where there’s no wind.

Cheers!
I couldn’t survive two months like that. Anytime there was a a sound I’d assume it was a crazed intruder wanting to rape me. If they didn’t pan out I’d go for demonic spirit. I’d definitely prefer the spirit though.

When I was a child I used the Ouija board. I was a Catholic and had been through my confirmation but did not know of the capacity of evil to come through the board. When I used the board something evil began to surface and start to spell a word. The evil was profound and powerful and I strongly felt it surface. I could sense this powerful evil and threw the board up in the air and away before the word was completed. I cannot remember what the word was; it was more the feeling that came over us than the word itself that was the source of the evil. I have no doubt that the board began to send the evil into my life. The Holy Spirit and the grace of God gave me the intelligence and desire to throw up and away the board. For many months after that I had a strong desire to use the board again but never did. God only knows how close I came to being separated from His Love and engrossed into the evil of Satan. Praise God for saving me from the evil that was ready to pounce. Satan will pounce in any way possible. I pray for all my friends in the forum that they may be close to God in Love and fellowship. Keep the evil away, keep away from the Ouija.

Yep. As I mentioned, the one I witnessed moving by itself was a peanut butter jar lid on a concrete floor, with the letters and numbers chalked in.

I wonder how being intoxicated would affect the experience. I know someone mentioned the relaxed mental state is one the devil preys on. I wonder if being a little drunk is the same thing.

We were more open to influences when drunk and had more trouble getting out and more trouble remembering details afterward. I’m looking for a thread where I talked about some of what happened to me and friends.

After a few weeks, I got used to it; but I still felt quite tense during the remainder of the period.

I do not do drugs, nor drink alcohol, so it couldn’t be down to being ‘under the influence’. Funnily enough, when my folks arrived, all the aforementioned stopped immediately.

In fact, one time when my older sister was still living with us, there was one day (out of many) where she’d have to babysit me (obviously, this is some time ago…) and for one reason or another, she had to go one end of the house (we were both in the living room). A couple of seconds later, I noticed what appeard to be, from behind, a woman wearing a black dress/cloak from head to to toe. She looked like she was gliding very slowly along the corrider which leads to my bedroom (funnily enough, the corridor is usually quite cool, as opposed to my bedroom which can be like a furnace), as opposed to the slight bobbing up and down when walking. I thought it was my sis and called out her name; she replied from the dead opposite direction of where I saw this ‘apparition’ (I hope I’m not going mad) and that prompted me to get up and check it out; it was gone (of course!) and there was nothing but broad daylight. This only happened once.

On the outisde, I was calm, but on the inside, I absolutely crapped myself at the time.

Anyway, aplogies for making this thread OT.

Cheers!

when i was in high school, i was at a friends house with a few other people and someone decided to make a ouija board on the counter from scraps of paper and a drinking glass. we played with it for a while, but nothing happened, so we got bored and hopped in our cars and went driving. i remember i was driving my mom’s car, following my friend at a litle bit of a distance. the next thing i remember is waking up in the hospital, and then the next thing i remember is waking up at home on my couch with a bandage on my head. it turns out that i had been involved in a car accident, and had hit a telephone pole breaking it in half.

i didn’t connect this to the ouija board until two months afterward i met the EMT who drove the ambulance to my accident site. i had never met him before, nor have i met him again afterward. he told me that he firmly believed a demon picked up my car and threw it against the pole. the accident occurred on a curve in the road, which curved to the left. my car hit the telephone pole on the right side of the road, and the pole hit just in front of the drivers side door (where i was sitting!). the EMT told me there were absolutely no skid marks on the road, no tracks through the sand on the shoulder, no car tracks through the grass, just a broken car and telephone pole. he also told me that i was so out of control when they got to the site of the accident that they had to strap me down to even work on me. i still have the 2 inch scar on the side of my head where i hit the windshield.

i can’t say if the story of the EMT is true, but it sure is a real creepy coincidence. and i have had other encounters with the demonic, so i can’t really rule out his story either…

I first played with a ouija board when I was 15. That was also the year that I stopped going to church (Baptist) with my grandmother, began my spiritual kite-flying and searching for a satisfactory religion to practice. I played with them off and on for over 20 years. I also took up the practice of tarot, other divinations, channeling spirits, and witchcraft. I even reached a point in my early 20’s where I actually asked God to release me from service to him because I could not take the suffering that He required me to endure. At least, at the time, I believed service to Him was far worse than being ‘on my own’.
I work in the medical field. I have seen three cases of demonic possession in 15 years of work. I have suffered horribly psychologically, emotionally, physically (when nothing could be found medically), and even financially.
I do not believe myself to be possessed. I do not believe that God allowed that to happen to me but He protected me from that in spite of my unbelief and disregard for Him. He has allowed me to learn a lot about spiritual warfare through my own personal experiences.
I would strongly discourage anyone from playing with these devices.
My big question is this, do priests treat this seriously? You do not hear about the devil and his demons much anymore. Has anyone here had to receive help from a priest? How were you received/treated by the priest if you did go for help?
I understand the Order of the Legion of St Michael is not ecclesiastically sanctioned. Are there any ‘spiritual warfare’ organizations that ARE ecclesiastically sanctioned? If so, what are those groups?

I’d just like to point out that this does not mean the OLSM is condemned or that the church dis-approves of their ministry. There are a lot of hoops to jump through to become approved; for some groups this process has taken up to 400 years. The OLSM is under 20 years old, currently.

By the way, they do have an apostolic blessing from Pope John Paul II, and they are operating within the bounds of canon law. (See their status in the church page for more info.) The OLSM is the only Catholic deliverance counseling ministry that I know of.

I think with your past dabblings in the occult, you could benefit from their Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance (see their Help Page).

God bless,
Becky

Won’t go near them as they are a tool of satan…Sadly they are sold as “toys”. I would rather ride a very fast motorcycle without a helmet than go near one…

I really really wanted to try the ouija board. But I am so obsessed reading ouija board stories on the interent and different forums. I did the online ouija board once. It’s a program. Then I went to a church healing and I was told that I opened a door to something dark and then they asked me if I did anything with the occult. I just told them about the online game thing. They told me to stay away from that and I had to go to confession to close the “door”.

Well, I never went to confession and the next time I went I asked the same person if the door was still open (didn’t tell them I didn’t go to confession like they told me to). They told me it was closed. So, in that sense, I have to believe no “door” was opened to begin with.

It’s really interesting, just because I don’t believe in it but yet, I like the thrill of it. Like watching a fiction movie where when you watch it, you get into the story line and you believe in it for that short period.

That is like not wanting to go over a cliff, but still pulling your car up to the edge and revving the engine. You need to detach yourself from seeking that “thrill” before you get pulled in further and end up over your head.

It’s Russian Roulette with a full load of birdshot: Every time you pull the trigger there is damage, but you don’t know how much until you look in the mirror and see the mess.
