Yup…had the very same experience after about one day though I was bending WAY over backwards not to flame & to be really nice. Unlike this board where respectful diversity is allowed & even encouraged, they just run ya off. I won’t go back…I was impressed by how dishonest they were, in that they were unwilling to allow answers from “our side of the fence”.

One of my pet peeves are people who are just out “gunslinging”…sort of just looking for a Catholic to hang their witness on & jumping us w/questions to bait us in an effort to “evangelize” us. It’s dishonest. I HAVE had a little success in winning converts from among such souls but only those willing to talk honestly will respond. The rest…I have to bite my lip & beg God to keep His watch & guard over my big Irish mouth before I rip them the way they have often done me. Their lack of charity will not exscuse mine. :nope:

To All:

It’s all a matter of perspective. There is nothing different about the way that (some) Protestant CARMies treat Roman Catholic CARMies than how (some) Roman Catholics treat Protestants here. I know it might be difficult to remove yourself from the situation…but if you do, you should be able to see it quite easily.

That being said, I don’t always agree with Matt’s opinion on stuff there…but he is a good man trying to do what he thinks is right in the eyes of the Lord. The same goes for most people there. CARMies, for the most part, are good natured and caring.

It’s funny, but this post brings to mind something I’ve been thinking of for a while. I usually come off as a Roman Catholic sympathizer at CARM and side with Roman Catholics about half of the time. Here, it is the exact opposite. Again, all about perspective.

for a convert or revert to spend time on a virulently non-Catholic board as a means of testing, proving or strengthening his faith and apologetics skills, is a lot like DV asking about shacking up with 5 strippers in order to convert them from a sinful life, and makes about as much sense spiritually. A recovering alcoholic should stay out of bars, a man recovering from a pornography habit should stay out of adult video stores, you get my drift.

I post at CARM regularly and have to say that the moderation of CARM is about the same as here, and usually quite fair (I’ve seen both Protestants and Catholics moderated rather equally). Although I also see some of the same harsh words thrown at Catholics on CARM as I have received here (only the words here are a little worse), CARM isn’t what most of the posters in this thread have made it out to be. I’ve visited a good number of discussion boards and the CARM Catholic board is very good compared to the others.

For those of you curious, you can see the opinion of some Catholics (new and old), who regularly post on CARM, concerning what the board is like:

One of the regular posters, a Catholic priest, says that it is a “civil” discussion board. There are other positive comments there as well. It’s not perfect, but the CARM discussion boards are hardly what they’re being made out to be by others in this thread.

Another forum that is very hostile to the Catholic Church is www.raptureready.com They hate any and all Catholics esp in their Apologetics board we’re routinly given black eyes from the Evangelicals there which is why I left after deciding to convert and I found my way here.

With some pride I think I could claim to be one of the earliest to be banned from CARM.

I was in an argument with a woman who would have thought Calvin’s Geneva outrageously promiscuous and said that I found her attitudes quite monstrous - the moderator (quite rightly by the rules of the board, I knew what I was doing) said “apologize or you’re banned” so I said “You’ll just have to ban me.”

No drama but it was quite early in CARM’s history.

Just wondering if anyone here has visited these forums at CARM (Christian Apologetics and Resource Ministry).
Someone here once wrote that they kinda felt like they were “preaching to the choir” and I kinda felt that way too.
I found this site and just out of curiosity, I visited and “lurked”. I finally had to register because I could not stand what I was reading about the catholic faith! Absolute Lies!!
It was on a “Roman Catholic” debate board. There were many catholics trying their best to defend and explain all the “misconceptions” there - all to no avail.:banghead:
The owner of the boards - Matt Slick (appropriate name) posted his version of what other faiths believed and every bit of it was blood boiling! He even claimed that we are not Christian!!!
Has anyone else been there? If so, what are you feelings about it?

IMO, posting there shows only that other Christians are as capable of standing by their convictions as we are ​

There are plenty of misconceptions - but then, do Protestants always find that Catholics have no misconceptions about what they believe and value? I wouldn’t like to bet on it.

If the Catholic board gets sticky - there are always others on the site.

I can think of worse Protestant sites ##

I hope this isn’t repetative since I did not read all of the replies. A few months ago (maybe 5 or 6) there was an Eastern Orthodox board on CARM. Well, it isn’t there anymore. I am not sure of the details, since I wasn’t there that night, but someone began argueing with one of the mods, and the next thing we knew the board was shut down. Another poster spoke to the person who was responsible for the shut down, and was told " that board was just being used to promote Orthodoxy." Well, imagine that, on and Orthodox board???

You will never get anywhere on CARM, as soon as you do you will be banned.
