Hi all,

Has anyone here read The Great Sacrilege by Fr. James F. Wathen? I’m a couple chapters into it - very informative book regarding the changes in the mass & papal infallibility. Older book (1971 – soon after the changes) but very logical and easy to understand. Let me know.

God Bless,
Mike

I have read it. It’s one of the golden oldies of traditionalist polemics-- a rock 'em, sock 'em smackdown of Bugnini’s New Order.

I would have no problem with the way this book characterizes the practical effects of the liturgical reform, but it goes too far to deny that the Latin text of the new mass is protected by the indefectibility of the Church.

Isn’t Father Wathen the one who started a new Order of the Knights of Saint John. Then used the sovereignty of the Order to not have to submit to local bishops? I could be wrong but I know there was a Wathen who headed this order at one time.

Yes, parts of it. It is a great book and makes many excellent points.

You might consider spending your time more profitably by studying the Bible.

The late Fr Wathen had been with OSJ, yes.

There are many good books exposing the Novus Ordo for what it is. Do a search in this forum and you’ll find a number of titles.

I’ve got the book. Turns out that he was exactly correct when he claimed that the old Mass was never abrogated. Before Rome finally admitted it, Traditionalists such as Fr. Wathens used to be absolutely ridiculed for claiming such a thing. As usual, the Traditionalists were proven right.
