Has anyone receive a favour through the intercession of the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Dear Friends,
If anyone has received a favour through the intercession of the Holy Souls in Purgatory*, I would like to hear about it and also to receive permission to publish it on my website. (The link for the web page is at the bottom of this posting).

I am collecting accounts of these favours to use in my apostolate (website) to spread devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory, i.e. to get more people to pray for them and to offer up their merits, prayers and sufferings to assist them and also to make people aware of the many kinds of favours that the Holy Souls in Purgatory can obtain for their benefactors.

St John Vianney said: “If one knew what we may obtain from God by the intercession of the Poor Souls, they would not be so much abandoned. Let us pray a great deal for them, they will pray for us.”

St Theresa of Avila said that "She always obtained the favours which she asked from God, thought the intercession of the Poor Souls.

Many saints and others have received favours through the intercession of the Poor Souls in Purgatory thoughout the centuries. I have put up some examples of favours that were granted to people that I know on my website and also of one that was granted to myself.

Sharing your stories of what the Holy Souls in Purgatory have done for you, will be a way that you can help the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

The web page has accounts of the intercession of The Holy Souls in Purgatory, for their benefactors in cases of illness, addictions, cars that won’t start, infertility problems, protection in accidents, their help for people who are experiencing major trouble with city councils, success with projects, finding lost property and trouble with relations, etc. and prayers and ideas on how to help The Holy Souls in Purgatory.
 
I learned something today. I had no idea that the holy souls in purgatory could pray for us while they are in purgatory. I do pray for them and was told that when they are released, they are so grateful to us for our intercession on their behalf, that they become our best friends. I had heard that they cannot pray for themselves while in purgatory. It is good to know that they can pray for us.

Yes, I knew - heard it years ago - that the Holy / “Poor” souls can’t pray for themselves - but they can pray for us. I don’t understand it but it’s wonderful to think. Plus, if any of our prayers have assisted/aided particular souls, I can’t help but think they won’t ever forget us once they’ve attained Heaven.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, to heal the Wounds of our souls.
My Jesus, pardon and mercy through the merits of Thy Sacred Wounds.
Eternal rest grant unto their souls, O God, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls - all the souls of the Faithful Departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
 
I think it’s a wonderful idea Mary Ann. I think that people too easily forget about those that have left us. I would love to see more people praying for the poor souls in purgatory. 👍

Unfortunately I don’t have any stories for you from my prayer efforts - not that I am looking for favors from friends and relatives that have passed 😉 Just trying to help them out 🙂

Hi Karen. Great thread! I myself have not received any visible favors… yet. 😉 But I greatly anticipate the intercession of the Holy Souls, for the conversion of my family (several of whom have dropped away from the Church). I say the prayer of St. Gertrude, 3 times… each evening.

In an apparition to St. Gertrude, Our dear Lord told her… that each time this prayer would be prayed… 1,000 souls would be released from Purgatory. You may already have this on your website… but just in case you don’t, here is the text of the prayer:

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus in union with the Masses said throughout the world today… for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory (this part was added, later)… for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.”

Let’s not forget about the Holy Souls. I sure hope that people will pray for me, one day. God bless.
 
*I love the holy souls, I really do. I have been thinking a lot about them in my prayer life the past year or so and have tried to increase my prayers for them. I guess I never really thought about them praying for us but its so beautiful and makes sense. Why wouldnt they? I have no particular stories either but its great to hear about what youre doing with your website.🙂 *
 
There is a story of one saint, whose name escapes me at the moment (sorry!), that received a favor through the intercession of the holy souls. The story either goes that the saint was either in denial of the holy souls being able to pray for others or the saint had great devotion to the holy souls and always prayed for them, entrusting them to the Divine Mercy and asking Mary the Star of the Sea to visit them, and offered the whole treasury of the Church for them each day. Whatever the case, at the saint’s death, he suddenly hear the most beautiful voices singing, a music so powerful and divine that it made him weep. The priest asked him why he was weeping and he replied, “The souls in Purgatory are praying for me!”

I think we receive favors through the intercession of the saints of the Church Suffering each day without knowing it. The saints in purgatory and in heaven love us very much, far more than we could love them, and they will whatever the Lord wills, so they must be constantly praying for us here on Earth. Though, even if this isn’t the case, I still love helping my brethern who have gone before me. Lord Jesus Christ, lead all souls into heaven!
 
In my case, not that I know of. Now I do a morning consecration for the Poor Souls:) , and have made The Heroic Act:( , so I am doing the footwork. As for favours in return, if they can save me from hell and pull me into Purgatory, that is good enough for me.🤷

Thank you for putting this prayer on the forum so that people will know about it and recite it (often) for the Holy Souls. I do have the prayer on my web page plus a small (three paragraph) article regarding it.

I have read in books many amazing stories of the intercession of the Holy Souls in Purgatory, but have never seen this one. This story is impressive.

I agree that favours are received from the Church Suffering without us knowing it. They are particularly granted to the benefactors of the Poor Souls.

Sometimes a favour was not particularly specified by a benefactor of the Holy Souls to them, but they obtained what is needed just the same. In some cases The Holy Souls will go out of their way to make it obvious that they obtained the favour for the person.

In some cases a soul or souls from Purgatory appears to someone who prays for them and gives them special help in their need. The various case histories published in books about Purgatory will demonstrate this point. One little book entitled: Read me or Rue It, has a few cases histories like this.

This is consoling for the benefactors and also when these cases become known it encourages many other people to also pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory and to invoke their assistance in their needs.

Thats a good start, but aim higher. Ask them to make sure you bypass Purgatory and go straight to heaven and get a high place there as well, also ask the same favour for your friends, relatives and benefactors. Aim high.

Well, yes, I do for family, friends, etc. but I am under the impression that the Heroic Act requires me to stay my full time in Purgatory, paying to the last penny the debt I owe to God.😦 Isn’t The Act totally meaningless if one is hoping for a loophole?

My understanding is that the Heroic Act* is such an act of charity** and such a total trust in God’s Goodness and Mercy, that God will pardon you to such an extent, that you will probably go straight to Heaven*** and furthermore He will reward you there abundantly. To understand this better, read the story of how this works. Go to the following link, do a search on the page for St Gertrude and read about how the devil tried to upset her when she was dying, by telling**** her that she would spend years in the fires of Purgatory, because she had given all her merits to The Holy Souls in Purgatory. Read what Our Lord Himself said to comfit St Gertrude at this time and to debunk what the devil had said to her.
