I agree that Eckhart gave an amazing performance, he created a very believable two-face. I totally disagree that Joker’s role was not challenging. Ledger did a fantastic job making Joker the twisted psycho that he was. When watching the film you do not see Heath Ledger, you see only The Joker. In one minute you’d be feeling sorry for the Joker, and the next you’d be thoroughly appalled by him. It was superb acting, exponentially better than Nicholson’s Joker.

I don’t know about all the Oscar hype, though. Part of me thinks he will be nominated but a large part of that will be because he died. I do think his acting was fantastic, though.
 
When we asked dd to hold off seeing it until we could read more about it, she didn’t argue.

Yesterday, a boy asked her to go see it and she said no because it was too dark. He suggested another movie instead. (good move on his part :rolleyes: )

Some dark things have happened in our family recently, and I just want her to hold off seeing it for a while. She probably will see it eventually.
 
I will be another voice that goes against the grain…I didn’t really like it either.

It just was overall depressing, as another poster put it. There is such a thing as intense and dark that then resolves itself, there is another where you just leave the theater unfulfilled—that was it for me. I like suspense movies…but I also had trouble really figuring out the storyline and make sense of it.

Sure spoiler warning my fiance and I figured that the overall message had to do with that people are not always what they seem, that they all wear a mask/painted face…that they hide their true self at times. Well, to be honest, while true I think this is an overly depressing view of humanity. Sorry—maybe I’m reading too much into this movie----but for whatever reason I was unfulfilled and had to try and figure out the “whys” of the storyline. At least with the first one it really had a msg of facing fear and not letting it control you. That makes more sense.

So I don’t know…I wasn’t impressed. Sure, the actors are first class, but also I admit I expected a little more from the hype they gave the Joker. However, I can definitely see how Heath Ledger could have been disturbed playing such a dark character.

So anyway, enough of a rant, and I’m glad people are enjoying it…it is afterall, a movie, meant for entertainment purposes. But for me, it was too dark and depressing to be my type of entertainment.
 
I think it was an awesome movie

My dad literally hated it.

My uncle didn’t understand it because he didn’t see the first one.

I’m annoyed by my father now…Well, and because I’ve got no one to talk to right now… 😦
 
Just got home from this movie and this is the first big budget hollywood film I’ve seen in a while that I’ve actually watched and enjoyed. I thought the dialouge was extremely well done as was the Joker. And the movie made some sense to me since I’d read the comic The Dark Night Returns.

Same here. Batman is my absolute favorite comic book superhero, so I was really excited for this movie. I also liked it because it stayed true to the comic.

I think if someone wasn’t really interested in the comic it wouldn’t be as exciting for them.
 
-Heath Ledger was indeed very good and probably will get at least nominated for it, but I don’t think he was was good enough to deserve the award

I’m thinking he will get the award anyways because of his tragic death and because Oscars are essentially “earned” over time.

The movie was very well done and I think it lived up to the hype as best as any blockbuster can. It does, however, slow down in the middle as things get a little bit less clear and scenes chase back and forth. More could have been done with Harvey’s transformation into Two Face, I think, but Two Face was portrayed very well nontheless.

As mentioned, the violence isn’t gory and there isn’t any questionable/outright disgusting sexual content.

I am, however, a bit disappointed that more wasn’t done with Batman’s struggle of right and wrong.
 
Definitely not too dark for a 17 yr old. A 12 yr old, maybe.
Great movie IMO.
 
Just saw it…ya it seemed a little too…gruesome…for a PG13. Otherwise, lots of action should make his 17 y.o. heart pitter patter.
