I agree that Eckhart gave an amazing performance, he created a very believable two-face. I totally disagree that Joker’s role was not challenging. Ledger did a fantastic job making Joker the twisted psycho that he was. When watching the film you do not see Heath Ledger, you see only The Joker. In one minute you’d be feeling sorry for the Joker, and the next you’d be thoroughly appalled by him. It was superb acting, exponentially better than Nicholson’s Joker.
- Oscar hype for Heath not grounded in reality. From an acting standpoint, Joker’s role was not that challenging. It may appear challenging, but it was very one-dimensional. If you can do one scene of the Joker, you can do them all. Aaron Eckhart delivered a finer performance in a more complex, transformational role as Two Face. Give him a nod, not Ledger.
I don’t know about all the Oscar hype, though. Part of me thinks he will be nominated but a large part of that will be because he died. I do think his acting was fantastic, though.
