Has anyone here seen the movie, The Monk?
I just caught it on movies-on-demand, and it is now in theaters to, and I have to tell you it blew me away. It’s a French movie with English sub-titles, but the acting, the scenery and set’s and the plot were very good and kept my attention through 2 viewings. Set in the 1500’s, a baby is left on the steps of a Capuchin monastery and eventually becomes a monk there, and is revered as a great saver of souls. But as the movie unfolds, it’s his own soul that needs saving. It’s a powerful film that really show’s how evil can set in with even the most devout and holy of men and souls. Not a horror flick by any means, with only a brief blurred nude scene, and little to no gore to speak of, but it is a tense and taught thriller only slowing down a bit in the middle. The ending is superb!
This is not a serious treatment of our faith, but it makes a wonderful backdrop for a good thriller…
