Now this show does have sexual situations which I fast forward over but I think it’s a good thing they depict the witches of Salem not as neopagans or wiccans as many wiccans claim they were but as traditional witches thus meaning they practiced evil magick and curses. This show is one of the first to depict witches in a shameful way they should be depicted. Also it shows a demon being cast out by a father using a catholic exorcism formula showing that the witches and the demons are scared of the true church also one of the main characters speaks disparagingly of catholics showing the puritan anti catholic attitudes of the time.

I know it is far from historically accurate but I think it’s good a show is depicting the occult as evil not like Charmed or the witches of east end showing “good” witches.

Just saying as a former practitioner I find that this show is finally outing witchcraft as evil instead of candy coating it,

I know not a good show for catholics but anyone who is ex occult will appreciate it’s message against witchcraft.

Good or bad, I don’t think any sort of fictional witch is an accurate comparison to the supposed ‘real thing’. 🤷

Also, I don’t think any show should be somehow a moralist formula for what magic ‘should’ be. I love imagining myself as a chaotic good kung-fu warlock thank you very much. 👍

I personally always tend to play lawful good elemntalist-types. (focus on the magic of one of the core RPG elements)

As for the show, it’s intrigued me, but I’ve yet to watch it. Is it actually, you know… any good in terms of acting and story?

Ok your talking about fantasy role play witch is fantasy of a game no one is performing actual ritual magic or folk magic in role playing or fantasy. I am talking about real witches which exist and that the program isn’t portraying the witches of salem as “peaceful wiccans” but as malignant is better than the fluffyness of charmed or other shows which seem to promote witchcraft this show well would turn someone off to it if they saw the rituals and evil witches actually do which the show demonstrates with eerie accuracy also this show debunks the wiccans who constantly scream oh the witchcraft practiced in early america was wicca

Yes role playing games witches are just games and hobbies no magic is actually involved
Again as a former traditional witch/bruja what have you and cult member I find the show as accurate as far as the necromancy talking to the dead animal sacrifice use of familiars aside from feeding the familiars, and the spells to harm or confuse and the astral projection are dead on now in the traditions I belonged to we didn’t have orgies or sacrifice people but I do know that in the Santa Muerte cult I became involved with later that one of the members was La Familia Michoacana and he would come before the santa and offer the lives of his enemies he had killed very similar to the salem shows offering the blood of the innocent that were executed.

As for the show the story is quite good it suggests that the true witches of salem caused the innocent to be executed as part of their great rite, and from what I see so far the main characters are all very good actors the man who plays cotton mather projects the puritan fanaticism and hidden deviance, the actress who plays mary sibley is quite good as well, and Shane West as John Alden is surprising convincing as well.

All aside the show portrays the type of witchcraft that was going on in the americas and europe at the time with no sugar coating I mean you just outright hate the witches characters in the show they have no redeeming qualities.

Well, I’m just saying your first post could’ve given a more clarified impression. All I got was this vague implication that you think every show that depicted ‘witchcraft’ oughta follow Salem’s formula.

That’s not really the case. Words like ‘magic’, ‘withcraft’, ‘sorcery’ and ‘spells’ have come a long way from what they originally stood for. This is a fact you yourself just admitted. (Heck, even fantasy ‘necromancy’ is drastically different from its real life counterpart. You couldn’t exactly summon real zombies to eat people for your could you? 🤷)

lol zombies no

My grandmother with quite a few greats in front was one of the women hung after being convicted of being a witch. They were real people and died unjustly accused.

I would never watch it due to the subject matter but the fact that they premiered it on Easter was far more troubling to me and I wouldn’t watch it just for that fact. TV networks go out their way to insult christians and families then cry when no one watches their shows…Rosemary’s Baby Premiered last Mother’s day for example. Shaking my head at that one too.
