“Another reason can explain the adult conversion. People usually convert after a very stressful situation, where they see no way out, and instinctively turn to a “higher” power. It does not matter that this higher power never helps. They can explain it away by blaming their own lack of faith, blaming themselves. This of course just leads to another vicious circle.”

This is a portion of a post that one “Hitetlen” an atheist, offered to Thistle in reply.

Question… Has God ever really helped you?

I will cast the first vote in the affirmative, though it would take too much space to relate His help in detail where I am concerned.

Anyone else?

Where shall I start?

Jn 21:25 There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.

The Bible is a good starting point for learning what God has done for you.
  1. Creation
  2. A Covenant with mankind – God establishes a relationship with mankind to love it and save it, despite itself.
  3. Jesus Christ – the Word of God is made flesh. Jesus is the Lamb that was slain for our eternal salvation.
  4. Eucharist - Jesus gives us a perpetual liturgy of unity with Himself, a new covenant purchased with His blood.
OH, do you mean me, specifically?

Well, first, all of the above. Then, personally, many blessings of material, spiritual, and social things, and my “daily bread” – like the scripture says, it would take an entire book.

What’s in your book? blank pages? really?

Question… Has God ever really helped you?

Answer… Sure, he gave me life!

Myangel:
You bet he has! 👍
And I agree 100% ! 👍 Lets see, how has God helped me? He heard my prayers for years to help me get out of the false belief I was in! He helped me come back to the One True Church!
He gave me life, and He has shown my husband the way to the Truth. He shows us His infinite love and mercy everyday! So has
He helped me? Yes. He helps us all. :amen:

Sure all the time. At a few points in my life in “miraculous” unmistakable ways.

Of course Christ could pop into view out of no where, cure a blind man, walk on water and make the sun run backwards and it would all be explained away as the unfortunate delusional side effect of spending too much time on Catholic Forums. If we had the whole thing on video tape it would of course be a carefully contrived conspiracy on the part of irrational zelots to make a case for God and dupe the innocents of the world into our insidious cult.

Any aethists on hand for the event were of course planted there, druged and hypnotised into believing the shared mass delusion.

So really what’s the point in even talking about such silly things?

Like Thal59 there would not be enough space but I can tell everyone that 3 times in the past 2 years God has been there for me and helped me big time. The three times were different situations.

can i share my testimony with you in brief?

Im 20 years old.
All the way back in elementary school i was seriously lost. I was a vandal and id ALOT of really bad things. I started smoking and doing drugs when I was about 13. I got suspended from school 4 times one year. Ive been expelled twice, placed in alternative school, group homes, two rehabs. My drug use became addiction and I tried alot of drugs, almost everything. I started stealing from everyone and living a total lie. I was lost, broken, enslaved, and blind…i was in denial and didn’t even know it. I was really broken I can’t stress that enough, i never learned how to live or to be a human being.

I should be dead. I have alot of stories, but I will leave it at this, I need to be thankful because there are several times doctors told me they weren’t sure I was gonna make it and Im still here. But people I got high with, people i went to school with are dead.

When I was eighteen my freshman year in college, i got very heavy into some serious drugs. I started stealing from my job to get money to support my addiction. Alot of money. I couldn’t live without them. I was going to twelve step meetings with a desire to stop, and I still couldn’t I would cry in a meeting about wanting to stop then at the break Id go in the bathroom and get high. The words of Saint Paul sum it up succinctly " I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." and Jesus explained why ""I assure you that everyone who sins is a slave of sin. "

One time I managed to stay clean for two days, man was it sooo hard, it took every ounce of will power I had. I even prayed to God to help me, but the third day I got high. And rather than helping me, you know what happened? It got worse, way worse. In a two week period of time my life fell completley apart. I got placed on academic probation and threatened to get kicked out of college, got kicked out of my house, totaled my car, and found myself in some VERY VERY bad situations. I was doing things I never imagined to get JUST ONE MORE.

My world crashed around me, my Mom told me if i didn’t go back to rehab I would have no place to live. It was winter and winter in philly is cold. I went to rehab with no intention of getting clean. I wanted to hang on to the lie, the partying and drinking and immorality, thinking that was where I would find happiness. I went into rehab high.

You know its funny, I went into rehab with no intention of getting clean, but God had other plans. God spoke to me through somoenes words, tey convicted me, they pierced the hardness of my heart, piercing bone and marrow. Know the parable of the lost sheep? I was the lost sheep, wandering, lost. I went to a rehab called miramount…miracle mountain is what it stands for. Jesus came into the hills in search of His lost sheep.

After reflecting upon my life, I realized something, there had to be more to life than this. And I also realized that I wasn’t being the person my parents raised me t o be. I was someone or something else. I realzied I did alot of terrible things and hurt alot of people. I felt real convicted. I saw for the first time the truth, i had a serious problem, and I needed help. I hit my knees and cried out to god. In His infinite mercy and love, He heard me…and answered. He touched my heart, Im not the same person today. Let me be the first to tell you i was the least deserving…but God is good yo…He healed me…and I praise Him and Thank Him every day. By the way, remember how I told you i couldn’t stay clean for two days? By His Grace Ive been clean 26 months and 22 days.

Im grateful.
Miracles happen. I tried being brief. Yes God has helped me. Im giving Him credit where it is due.

God helps me (and everyone else here) in ways that we can’t even describe. God has given me peace in my heart that I never had when I fell away from the Church. God has comforted me in times of anxiety, protected me in times of danger, and given me the strength neccessary (through Grace) to combat evil and win, whether that evil was internal or an external force. I could go on and on about the specifics of my life, including the period when I denied God, but I would have to answer a resounding ABSOLUTELY!!! People don’t die for a myth. Outside of the realm of personal experience, there are many verified physical miracles that are well documented, and many that have taken place in our lifetime I might add. God is at work in our lives, just as He has been since He created us, and if you doubt that, then I challenge you to disprove anything I have just said.

:blessyou: Anonymous1 :tiphat: A truly inspiring story. Good for you and PRAISE GOD he brought you home.

yes mam Praise Him for He is worthy!

Yes. Everything that I ever think, do or say is a personal favor from God.

There is an old Islamic story that says that Satan fell because he would not kneel to the new creation, man. Satan felt that the only rightful object of deference was God himself. When he disobeyed, God told him to “Go to Hell”. Down in Hell, Satan only exists by his memory of God’s voice and His last command.

That story is not from the Christian tradition but it has a certain ring of truth. Without God, albeit a faint trace, the soul’s existence is impossible.

God has helped me in countless ways - but there are four specifics I can count! My husband and I were told by one of the best infertility specialists in Chicago that we would never have our own children because of endometriosis and damage the disease had done to my fallopian tubes. I had two surgeries, but he did not think that even lasar surgery could repair the damage. We are the grateful parents of two boys and two girls. God is good!

👍 agreed I could type pages on this one.

Has God ever helped me? Yes, more times than I can count – and some of the times were rather miraculous in nature. 🙂

Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully, Hitetlen and the other atheists/agnostics will read your testimonies with an open mind and heart.

Shortly after I opened the thread, while I was praying the rosary, a memory popped into my head. While my opening post still holds that I could type pages regarding the Lord’s help, that past memory that came back to me provides a quick witness.

I was about 10 years old and I was walking to a local store about a mile or two from home. I came to a fairly busy street. I made my way across the easttbound lanes to the median. There was a line of cars in front of me waiting for the light to change. I looked left and right and saw no other cars approaching the intersection so I ran at top speed between two of the waiting cars.

The instant I was about to emerge from those two cars and run across the westbound lanes, I came to a sudden stop. I swear to this day it felt like I ran into an invisible rubber band stretched between the two cars I was passing between. I mean a literal, impossible, instant stop from full run to full stop in an instant. The second I stopped, a car that came out of nowhere zipped by as it pulled up to the crosswalk at the intersection.

Maybe it was just my guardian angel… but if my angel was given to me by God, then it was God who helped me.

Never. And I have been through some very difficult times. I prayed very sincerely, very desperately. I was a faithful Catholic back then too.

Nothing ever came of it.

I think prayer has about as much effect as placebo, which is some, if you believe you’re being helped you might feeel better and what not. The belief that someone is watching out for you can be very comforting. It can be a source of strength.

But real help? Nope. I’d be a believer if I ever experienced it.

Yes, my life, health, salvation, and eternal home (I hope)!

Mega dittos!! I only thought I experienced blessings in my former life…

yes God has and is and will continue to help me. once years ago
there were three teenagers, they stole a car. while they were cruising the gas pedal got stuck. this car was now out of control.
the car with the three youths was about to hit a big tree at 50 mph.
one of the young men prayed seconds before the impact, God help us. as we hit the tree i could feel glass like rain smashing into my face. all was black. none of us had seat belts on.
when i came to i was staring out where the windshield use to be.
my friend jerome, took the brunt of the impact hitting the tree dead center on the drivers side door. he was driving. i crawled out where the windshield had been. went and opened the passenger door,
where i was a few seconds ago and pulled my friend out. looking
for my other friend who had been sitting in back, where the seat was now almost upside down i searched for him. he was not there.
he had gone airborn thrown from the car. with the exception of a few scratches and bruises. we walked away. oh yeah. i belive in God. 👍
