Has Jesus personally appeared to other faiths?

What I mean is, in the Catholic Church appearances by Christ, and of course Mary, have been documented in Church history.

I am reading the Diary of Saint Faustina right now, and it made me wonder.

Are there documented cases of Christ actually appearing to someone of another faith, besides Orthodox, or Catholic?

I don’t mean simply someone saying they were “spoken” to, I mean actual appearances.

I would assume there are no appearances of Mary or the Saints to other faiths, but wondered about Christ himself.

Apparently they have, through some “divine” intervention and apparition, they come to discover new faiths. The INC founder believes himself to be the Messenger of God, as Christ “crowned” him leader of such sect. same with Mormonism, etc… the whole bunch…

hmmm. just the founder though and never the followers:)

But was it Christ himself that was said to appear to Joseph Smith? Or just Gabriel?

I am not speaking of simply saying that they were spoken to of course, I mean an honest account of an actual appearance of Christ, or heck, Mary, Saints, you name it. I know that Mary and the Saints would be shot down quickly as it never happening, so I posed the question about Christ.

Seems to me that a truly blessed Church would have been “visited” so to speak. But I am unaware of any “protestant” faith seeing such, or recognizing such. Perhaps the Lutherans?

The answer is Yes. It’s there at least in modern apparitional accounts: to Hindus, to Jews, to Muslims, to Protestants.

Possibly to Buddhists and Sufis, too.

(I used to read a fair amount of such accounts.)

Not doubting it by any means, simply would like to know more on it. Can you give some references, sources, accounts of such things?

Thanks 🙂

Come to think of it, none that i know of, angels announce their “revelations” to these founders. Mary? no other faith have full-time Marian devotion thus reject any Marian apparitions–maybe Lutherans are the closest you can get as for some Saints also.

Yeah, and then they convert to Christianity. 😉
I don’t merely mean non-Christians though. I want to know about non-Christians as well, but I really want to know whether or not in non-Catholic faiths, besides Orthodox of course, whether or not there are documented cases of this. If so, who did he visit? What was said? How is it held to the other faiths that hold close beliefs? So on, and so forth.

I personally love the Catholic faith partly for the fact that Christ, Mary, and some Saints have appeared to different people, and it is believed/documented to have really happened. I just have never heard of it outside my Church, so to speak is all, and was curious.

Fidei,

No, these were not angels. These were apparitions of Jesus.

Teneas, some of my books on this are in storage, so I don’t have handy titles. But they weren’t weird books, very reserved & respectful in their accounts.

Cool beans, is just interesting to me is all.

Thanks all for the reply’s thus far, look forward to others. 🙂

Teneas this is a tricky question because you are saying that to be a truly blessed church you would think Christ would visit. Not sure where you get that but let me give you 2 examples. A former member of the PLU was on television talking about a visit that Jesus Christ paid to him. He’s now a convert to Christianity. Several other members of the muslim religion have reported seeing Christ in their dreams. Apparently Muslims give special attention to their dreams so seeing Christ was dramatic enough that they have converted to Christianity also. Now would you say that the Muslim church is truly blessed because Christ has appeared in visions to their members which then triggered said members to leave and convert to Christianity??

One more specific example of many I can give is a woman at our church was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer 2 years ago. She was given 6 months to live but blessed with GOD’s infinite Grace and is still alive and cancer free today. During one her surgeries Jesus paid a visit to her and let her know that she was not going to die. As Jesus started to move away from her HE told her that she has unfinished work in this life. She started crying “Jesus please don’t leave me” over and over. As she came out of the anesthesia an OR nurse pointed to her and said “this woman is crying out for Jesus”. Our church is not Catholic. I could go on and on with specific examples if you would like but I’m sure others from other denominations or other religions could as well.

I don’t think Jesus visiting a church means a church is truly blessed or not truly blessed. I think when Christ pays a visit to someone it’s for a specific purpose and not related to their church affiliation.

In most of this I agree completely 100%. Non-Christians seeing Christ and becoming Christian is great! It is however, not really the topic I meant to bring forth. I am not saying that other faiths are not blessed either, trust me.

From my position, the Catholic Church has quite a bit of documented Christ visions that have happened. Not to mention Mary, and the Saints, although another subject to some extent. I promise I am not putting down the faith of other denominations, I am simply curious about if many of them have been visited by Christ himself. Would be even cooler, not saying Christ isn’t cool and above all, if they have cases of the Saints or Mary visiting. I just think that Christ, and the others visiting Catholics, or anyone speaks highly of whatever faith that person belongs to is all. There just happen to be more cases of it happening among Catholics, so I wondered if it happened in other faiths.

To me, it’s like Christ checking in on his children a little more directly. Am still curious though, would love to hear about more visits in other denominations.

From time to time there are private relevations in other faiths, but usually with a personal message only. Years ago I heard a personal testimony from a former homosexual where he claimed that just as he was about to commit suicide on his second and deadly serious attempt, Christ materialised in the corner of the room, moved towards him and somehow merged.

From that time on he never even had to struggle with the homosexual impulse, despite being involved in “everything going” (his words) in Sydney prior to that time. He’d married and had a couple of young children at the time.

There was no general message for the public, except perhaps for the homosexual community if they were prepared to believe it, if he were to give his testimony in homosexual circles.

The difference between his experience and that of the Catholic saints is marked. Mother Julian Norwich had a vision of Christ, which had a bearing on the church of the day, and even today, if we want to read it.

I also think that from time to time Christ puts in what might be called a cameo appearance, where someone will suddenly realise that a person he’s seen or met at some particular function, event or situation was in fact Christ. He usually then just disappears.

But in such cases, the message is personal.

I’ve heard accounts of angels. I read one book by a non-Catholic Christian musician, who at one point was playing the piano and singing, when suddenly somebody else joined in with perfect counterpoint and an incredibly beautiful voice. Yet there were no other singers on stage.

Probably not to the interest of Catholics and this is foundational to Latter Day Saints (Mormons), God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith in 1830.

Joseph Smith was seeking a answer to his prayer of which of the existing churches at the time (Protestant and Catholic) he should join. It was not his intention to restore Christ’s church – just a answer to his prayer.

Mormons believe that God the Father and Jesus Christ actually appeared to Joseph Smith. Their early history has a number of appearances of Heavenly/Biblical persons to Joseph Smith and early leaders, such as John the Baptist, Peter, James, John, etc. These are all accounts of “actual appearance”.
