I know there have been past threads on this subject…

I would like to know how long you have been using NFP and has it worked for you?

What type of NFP are you using?

Sympto-thermal method.
We’ve used it for 8 years now… 100% successfully - all 3 kids were “planned” by us & God.

🙂

We use the lazy way, just by mucus observation. That pretty much means a week of abstinence. We’ve done this for 15 years and have four children, the youngest is 6. I’m fortunate in the sense that I am very regular and know my body very well. Of course, if a surprise baby were to happen, we would be fine with that. I also nursed all four of my children for atleast a year each, and had no periods for the first year post partum. So I am very fortunate in that way too. If it were difficult for us, we wouldn’t do it.

Mucus observation, used successfully around 14 years. Too successfully, I wish now that there had been a surprise or two or three… stopped really tracking a couple of years ago, seems it is too late for us now 😦

please explain what you mean. are you saying that NFP failed for you at 29? How did it fail?

I am just beginning to use it and want to make sure I am on the right track.

I am temping and observing symptoms of fertility.

ADDITIONAL QUESTION:
At what day do you begin to abstain? I think I need to begin to abstain on day 8. I ovulate on day 13 or 14.

Is this going to work for me you think guys?

I’m sorry,NFP has worked very well ,My son is 29.I’m married 32 years.I was refering to,that I had made a mistake not having more children even though my marriage was rocky.NFP worked very well. You must learn “your” body ,your husband must learn your body,my body it varied,I used temp, and mucosal.Use all resources and learn, chart and pray.

Symptothermal has worked for me & my husband (we’ve only been married 1 year and are not seeking pregnancy yet). I have all-the-time mucus and a short luteal phase, so we abstain from day 6 to usually about day 20.

Worked very well. Married 10 years, 4 children, 5 pregnancies - all either intentional or expected. So we have used NFP to avoid pregnancy with a 100% success rate for a total of about 65 months (the other 57 months, we were not trying to avoid).

Tried all 3…none worked. We tried to space, but had 1 miscarraige and 2 children in 4 years.

9 years marriage, Billing method whole time. Works in every sense of the word: we have 2 totally planned and tried for kids and 1 “oh what the heck” kid.

I have little doubt that we’d only have the 2 if we used contraception. The beauty of NFP is that it REGULARLY reminds you to re-examine your serious reason for avoiding pregnancy. Once in a while, you get surprised to find your reason isn’t so serious.

Hmmmm, I think I just answered this question, I guess it is all in how the Title is written.

After 3 years it has not helped us achieve pregnancy 🤷 Our guess is something else is wrong, so we are growing our family through adoption 😃

Hmmm…I have had mixed feelings about NFP. I am also lazy when it comes to tracking my symptoms, etc…so, for my dh and I…we have been just winging it. I used a form of NFP when we were first married, and my son was conceived. In that sense, I guess it didn’t ‘work.’ 😃 But we love our son so it didn’t matter.😉

get thee to a teacher. You can’t ask forum people if they think day 8 will work. You cannot decide your abstaining days by the calendar. Your ovulation could change every cycle

We have used nfp off and on for 20 years–mucus only method. Yes it works, we have 8 beautiful boys all planned by God, some because we were ready, others because God chose to bless us in spite of ourselves! Wouldn’t change a thing–being open to life and raising souls for heaven is our vocation and means of sanctification.

Us too, but two kids in 12 months.

The thing is that some couples are just naturally more fertile than others. I love it when people say “Oh yeah…NFP totally works for us. You must not be doing it right.” But the truth is that no one can attest to another person’s fertility. I personally become fertile a mere 6 weeks after childbirth, and I get pregnant during my “non-fertile” times…amazingly enough.

I will pray for you that things will work out for you. I’m glad you’re open to adoption. There are so many children that need a loving home.

I guess I should clarify that I use the mucus method to determine signs of fertility returning. I notice it beginning on day 8; so I begin to abstain on that day.

I have taking a course in the Billings O Method when I completed my Marriage Encounter weekend.

I am lucky…I’m like clockwork. God has blessed me in that regard.

If you don’t mind me asking, how many days is your cycle? Is it beyond 28 days? I read somewhere that NFP is very difficult if your cycle is longer than 30 days.

Well two chldren in 4 years is what my hubby and I are hoping for:) We’ve got one down and another to go (if it’s in God’s plan).

I agree with you so much! In fact, since I began using NFP, I actually began to think that having a big family would be nice. I only ever wanted 2 babies and now I’m beginning to think that having 3 babies would be even more wonderful.

It’s funny how when we open ourselves to God that we actually begin to feel what His will is.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THEIR RESPONSES!!!
