Hell was originally prepared as a place for demons. (CCC 391ff; Matthew 25.41)

Where are you getting such specificity from?
Its not in the Catechism.

"AlthoughSatanmayactintheworldoutofhatredforGodandhiskingdominChristJesus,andalthoughhisactionmaycausegraveinjuriesofaspiritualnatureand,indirectly,evenofaphysicalnatureoeachmanandtosociety,theactionispermittedbydivineprovidencewhichwithstrengthandgentlenessguideshumanandcosmichistory.Itisagreatmysterythatprovidenceshouldpermitdiabolicalactivity,but“weknowthatineverythingGodworksforgoodwiththosewholovehim.”

Clearly Satan still acts in the world.

“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” (Revelation 12:7-9).

Satan has already been cast out of heaven, but he still has influence on earth. For the most part, we are still waiting for the events of Revelation to occur. It culminates with the second coming of Christ and the destruction of earth (presumably also the universe). Then a new earth will be created that is joined with heaven rather than separate as it is now. Satan will have no influence over this new earth, but he definitely still does in our current time and place.

How do we know that we aren’t already living the events of Revelation?

To some degree, we are, but we are not yet in the days spoken of by the Lord Jesus where “There shall be tribulation such as never has been until this time.”

Wouldn’t you say that the world-wide priest child abuse scandal and cover-up has resulted in unprecedented tribulation that has never been in the Catholic Church until this time?

Also, how about Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
