Has the Church issued any sort of teachings/doctrines about transsexuality?

Random question but I was thinking- the Church has issued many a statement on homosexuality and sexual issues, but I was wondering if there has been any specific teachings or discussion within the Church about transsexuality and the issues surrounding it?

I ask this for personal reasons but also general curiousity.

Perhaps this one…[BIBLEDRB]Deuteronomy 22:5 [/BIBLEDRB]
I could be wrong, it could have died out with the New Testament, or its literacy could’ve died out like the shrimp and slave laws.

Neither the Pope, nor the Curia, nor a national conference of bishops have directly discussed the issue of transsexualism. However, persons concerned with the matter, whether priests or ethicists, have interpreted existing documents, with the consensus being against the procedure of sex reassignment surgery.
Perhaps this one…]
That Bible verse often gets cited, out of context, when transgender or transsexual matters are raised. However, its use is unwarranted. Chapter 22 of Deuteronomy is a list of archaic legal prescriptions which are now longer binding on Christians (or on most Jews.) Some of the prescriptions in the chapter are a bit odd (you can’t wear clothing from two different fibers e.g. a shirt which is 40% polyester and 60% cotton) and some are horrific, such as a raped woman being forced to marry her rapist.

There is no way to justify one verse out of Chapter 22 as being valid, while dismissing the rest of of the chapter.

I don’t think there has been a lot. I remember a few years ago there was something sent out to priests and pastors about providing support to such people, and it was pretty accommodating by some measures.

The gist, to me, seems to be that no one really knows a lot about the causes of people feeling they rightly belong to the other sex, and so the CC does not want to make pronouncements about a condition that is little understood. The thing is, there aren’t really many good solutions to the problem either, so it’s not like they can recommend anything much either - though in practice some things might be precluded.

Maybe someone else will remember the document I am thinking of and know where to look for it.

I was recently going over an application, and it said: Sex: Male_____ Female______ Other______ . Outrageous!! I crossed out the ‘Other’, as there is only male and female. There is no other.

There are Hermaphrodites. 🤷

But that’s a birth defect not a third option.

I think the point is a person with that condition could not easily pick one of the other options. There may be others who find themselves in the same position with other disorders as well.

But male and female genders aren’t “options.” I just wanted to point out the grammatical error/self-contradictory statement.

No it’s a condition known as inter-sexed. Male and female are not options, they are statements of fact. So is being inter-sexed.

The question is whether transsexualism is a psychological or physiological disorder. This I believe, the Church has not pronounced on, therefore it behooves us to treat transsexuals with charity and love, including those who have undergone sex-reassignment.

And often (or even always) the psychological *is *physiological.

As far as grammar goes though, I think it would be accurate to say that the designations and tick-boxes are options one chooses, not one’s own sex. One could choose to pick one box based on accuratly reporting one’s sex, or choose to lie, or not choose any, or whatever.

god still loves everyone because god made you the way you are !!!..fact 100 per cent no arguement:)

please people we are christans…not bloddy fasicts

christans accept everyone:)

I recently did an assignment on this very issue, and came to the conclusion that Transgenders (gender confused) are the way they are from birth.

Transgenders that believe in god believe that God gave them the wrong sex to test their faith and their courage, and come out a better person.

Pick nits often? The OPs post showed three ‘options’ male, female or other. There is no third option. Or am I still missing you brilliant point?

Genetic defect. I don’t know why people have such a hard time with that reality. I have a birth defect that will likely shorten my life so what. Calling a disorder a disorder isn’t the same thing as hating the person with the disorder.

Hermaphrodites I think are a genetic defect. As far as I know there is only indirect evidence about transsexuals and what causes their condition.
