I just read this alarming article: The German Church Has Fallen—Why Is No One Reporting This? – New Walden

According to the author, the German Catholic church has announced these changes: 1. That sexual relations in a second marriage after a divorce is not a serious sin and, thus, such couples can be admitted to the Eucharist.
2. Homosexuality is a normal expression of human sexual desire. It is not intrinsically disordered.

I would appreciate more information, if anyone has it.
 
Very true. There are a handful of faithful German bishops, but a large number of them favor these changes in teaching. They never call anyone to carry their cross, but instead look for ways to accept sinful behaviors as moral.

And to answer the OP. I would say no. There may be liberal/modernist prelates that are committing apostasy, but the Catholic Church in German has not collapsed. For Jesus Himself said the gates of hell shall not prevail against His church.

But what if this refers to the Church as a whole, internationally? But locally fails may happen? ☹️
All I know is that the Vatican opposed this “synod” of German bishops and so I am not convinced it is a Synod. You need agreement between bishops to have a Synod. Not every lunch where bishops attend is a Synod. If it’s not a Synod, then the changes of this meeting of German bishops simply should not be applied and have zero value in the Church.

Basically the same thing as the English articles, it quoted directly the Catechism:

“this means that any form of discrimination against homosexual people must be rejected”

Something that we all know:

“However, the question of whether the teaching ban on practiced homosexuality is still up-to-date, as well as the question of the permissibility of using artificial contraceptives in marriage and in the case of unmarried couples, was controversial.”

Then the repeated concerns about interpreting AL, which everyone here knows.

The end:

“The results of the specialist consultation will flow into the forum of the Synodal Path “Living in Successful Relationships - Love Living in Sexuality and Partnership”, which will start its work in February 2020.”

So, there was a panel who put together a summary. That summary will be part of an upcoming Synod. Nothing was “declared”, any declarations would be made after the Synod and approval by the Holy Father.

This really doesn’t prove the point. That’s like saying the protestant reformation couldn’t happen because then “the gates of Hell would have prevailed.” Just because my entire country apostatised in 1534 doesn’t mean that the Church didn’t prevail…

Without a doubt many do not like the Church’s teaching on contraception and may call it ‘controversial’, but the Church’s teaching remains the same.

For example, a sexual relationship after divorce and remarriage is no longer generally classified as a serious sin, and thus no more general exclusion from reception of the Eucharist is provided.

Has the Catholic Church changed its teaching on re-marriage?

I am not aware of any changes to the Church’s teaching on sexuality, sex, contraception or marriage. The German bishops have a longstanding reputation for not always complying with the teaching of the Catholic Church.

The Holy See has told the German bishops that their proposed synod is not valid.
 
This document is about a panel bringing up questions, nothing in that article read:

“We, the Bishops of Germany, declare that sex outside of a valid marriage is not sinful” or “We, the Bishops of Germany, approve the use of contraceptives by Catholics”.

And should the Synod take place, I will expect the Vatican to make that clear to people.

Honestly, I do not see why people are fretting about this. It is a proposal for something that we already know has no teeth.
 
I am a convert and deeply love my Catholic faith and nothing can take me away from Christ’s church. I am quite disturbed though by what the German bishops are considering. I fear this could cause a schism.

I do think we have a right to be concerned about changes that an episcopal conference is proposing to make to Church teaching. If they are prepared to hold a synod the Holy See has told them not to what is to stop them going ahead with implementing its proposals. The Holy See’s powers only endure as long as they are respected. It has not prevented the German bishops ploughing their own furrow in the past.

I can definitely see how it’s controversial.

If we’re going this route, then why don’t they go ahead and declare bisexuality to be a normal variation on the sexual spectrum, then proceed to bless off on three way marriages.
 
Declared? No. But the fact that it’s being discussed at all speaks volumes.

I give it 10 years, 15 max, before they allow me to take on a second wife.
 
The “Church” in Germany collapsed a long time ago. They once owned interests in the pornography business, only selling it at the insistence of Benedict XVI’s Vatican.

It hasn’t. But many people believe and trust their bishop, and if the bishop says, this is OK, the damage is already done.

Again, as above. Unfortunately much of the church in Germany is pretty liberal / left leaning, definitely on the level of bishops. Some priests are different, but not very many. German society was strongly affected by the left-wing 1968 protests and anything vaguely conservative or traditionalist is equated to naziism by the very powerful and influential left, who also control the press, TV, education etc and thus control how the majority of people think. These days to be even taken seriously in the church you need to condemn teachings on contraception.

They also owned buildings which they rented out for use by prostitues. When challenged on this they said the buildings were managed by an agency and they didn’t control what the agency did, which sounds like a very lame excuse to me. It wasn’t until there was an outcry that they changed the agency.
