I was trying to find something and can’t. Plus, just curious.

Peace and love be with you all.

Ok, do not bash the Holy Father. We do not know why we have not heard anything specifically about this issue from the Holy Father.
Read this article:
ncregister.com/blog/edward-pentin/cardinal_bergoglio_hits_out_at_same-sex_marriage
When Pope Francis visited the Philippines, he spoke out against same-sex “marriage”.
Pray for the Pope. Period. He is the Vicar of Jesus Christ. Not a politician we can freely criticize. Plus, if we want to evangelize to others and convince others that the true Church is the Catholic Church, we must show that we are one and faithful to the One Holy Church by showing our love for the Holy Father. Remember Pope Pius XII had reasons for not saying something specific about Hitler’s final solution. If he did, all the Jews he was protecting would have been compromised.

Instead of talking, I trust our Holy Father has spent a great deal of time in prayer on this issue. As we all should.

Why should he say anything? The USA is a separate secular state, and nothing to do with the Pope.

Exactly. Why should Catholics say anything?

As citizens we are welcome to exert what influence we have to make that happen. But not to protect the Church from “marriages” that are done outside of her and not recognized by her anyway. Jesus doesn’t need Catholics in the 21st Century to take their issues with other people’s behavior to the government.

What belongs to God, give to God. What belongs to Caesar, give to Caesar. One of the things that belongs to Caesar, is power to disregard our wishes. And maybe Caesar gives other people freedom to do things that will get them into trouble with God. The fact that they might, is needed for their decisions to have meaning.

It isn’t our problem to instill faith into Caesar. We can ask, but we must submit ourselves to worldly rulers. In Acts 5 Paul says we must follow God’s rules, not man’s, but then you also have this reference from Matt 5:

25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.

So I guess our adversaries took us to court, and instead of settling (like for example had been amenable to “civil unions” to give them rights by Caesar without having to further trash the “institution of marriage” which non-homosexuals have already made into a joke so nothing completely new there) we decided we would Never Compromise, and went all the way to the top.

We were so right, but alas! The court decided in favor of the adversary, and we lose. Sorry Charlie. Nothing new; just the same pattern Jesus noticed two centuries ago and tried to warn us that it was futile or at least risky to take a No Negotiation stance toward “settling.” For politicians, “settling” means we can’t rest until the adversary is defeated.

The funny thing is, the only adversary that threatens our soul, has already been defeated by Jesus. So we do what Jesus says is risky and likely to backfire, to protect God against an enemy He has already defeated.

Think about it. Regardless of what certain Catholics like to say publicly, can you actually hear Jesus saying, “those people are doing very evil things, and it grieves my Father. You must go to the government and insist that they put a stop to it, by threatening those who do this wrong thing with harming them. Then they will know that I am God, and that we care about their soul.”

Or maybe it’s more like this: Jesus is talking to the disciples about the gay marriage issue and tells us “if Caesar allows something that you know God doesn’t, then it is Your Job to fuel divisions within Caesar’s armies and support the side we are on. Sinners will know we are merciful because we will have saved them from sin. God put before us life or death decisions, and we are to choose life. Anyone who doesn’t choose life, is subject to government control.”

This is how it works with Sharia law. I’m not saying US law is like that, but how is it materially different than requiring Caesar to enforce laws restricting our “free will” such that if what we choose offends God, we will take action and stop it by force? The difference is in the details and the particulars – not in concept IMO.

You may have different opinions; if you do then please spare me telling me how wrong and/or wrong-headed I am, unless you provide some counter-argument that is based on actual principles that Jesus would have supported. I’m not interested in some fancy technical explanation; my son is in the seminary and explains it to me from the Church pov when I ask him. I’m interested in a real-life example of how a conversation with Jesus might go… or how you believe Jesus would support being anxious and angry over what the government allows? If Jesus had known Herod was going to kill John because if his own lust-induced commitments, do you think Jesus would have encouraged His disciples to exercise civil disobedience as long as the situation is wrong?

We go around saying WWJD? Then we say yes He turned the tables over so that gives us a mandate to dedicate our entire lives to keeping Caesar in check through mob action. The people know it is wrong, Caesar must have known it was wrong. What about saying SSJHMD? What would Jesus have me do? Blow up the White House for what it has done to His Father’s creation? I he had a pressurized fire hose or a grenade, would He have used them? Just asking not presuming to know the answer because I don’t have a parallel universe to test the theory.

Then mob action killed our Savior. We wanted the mob to enlighten the government and it really hasn’t had much of a history of doing so. And then we blame it on Herod for doing something he couldn’t stop no matter how he argued, and finally gave up. What if he had gone against the crowd? I wonder if either Jesus OR he would have lived another day?

Just something to think about. I really don’t care one way or the other about gay marriage, any more. I used to, and even registered as a Democrat so I could more easily inject “pro-life values” directly where it was needed. But we lost this battle and anybody who thinks we are going to get it back any time before Kingdom Comes, is throwing good money after bad. It is as much a pity to waste one’s life aggressively and with great passion, fighting a fight against worldly powers that can’t be won – because God wants us to spend our lives doing that. Yes, we may suffer on earth for it, but it will be all worth it when God sees how hard we tried to force other people to quit sinning.

Oh but it does as it effects all Catholics (s well as other Christians), and will have a drastic effect on our Religious Freedom. And the Pope is the leader of all Catholics (as well as all Christians, (even if they don’t agree with that). God Bless, Memaw

It is all Catholics obligation to advocate for marriage. USCCB told us to do so.
usccb.org/issues-and-action/marriage-and-family/marriage/promotion-and-defense-of-marriage/upload/Bulletin-AFTER-Scotus-brown.pdf

Catholics’ silence is the reason gay “marriage” becomes “legal” as of today. It matters how you think and what you do or not do because everything has a consequence. And keep in mind, everyone will answer to the Lord one day in his personal judgment.
The article you linked is not bad. I like the call to prayer, and it’s great to encourage citizens to communicate with their representatives.

The part about talking with others is really the only call to action I see, which is not really a problem although the way it is executed can be tricky to pull off. But with Francis, he has made it clear is seems to me, that the Church has other things to focus on, and not so much about fighting to change laws and “win” the “battle.”

Thank you for linking it. 👍

I’m agree with Memaw about the Pope being our leader and should affect all of us. We recognize him as the Holy See and all Catholics look up to him as the Head of the Catholic Church. (Hopefully, I’m not phrasing this wrong). Still, Pope Francis is traveling now so he may not have had a chance to say anything.

(Perhaps, the Pope leaves comments up to each single Church’s Bishops and their stance on this issue.)

Anyway, prayer was taken out of schools because nothing was done about it and look what happens now. (Not saying that tragedies wouldn’t happen if prayer were still prayed). Now a days, children can’t say prayers without getting in trouble.

I was just wondering. Not trying to start anything.

God Bless all of you!

Pope Pius 12 said in 1951 “The world is worse than before the flood.” That is 1951. Think about now.

This is a very sincere video, very informative, anyone cares to watch it will understand how we are where we are now. youtube.com/watch?v=m4MyFkgVUrk

This is a video about Father Fuentes Interview of Sister Lucia of Fatima.

I was thinking that I would not want to be any younger than I am now. The world is horrible with all its sufferings. I wish I could make it a better place. All I can do is stick to what Jesus teaches and stand up for my beliefs. And pray.

Yet, I do get tired of being slammed for my beliefs. Still, won’t make me back down.

Love y’all and I pray all have many blessed days. Love, Sheila
