Dear Parents I would be interested in hearing your stories regarding a person/child you know that was excluded from a Catholic School for ASD behaviour?

It’s not always a matter of keeping up. By asking about the spectrum the OP appears to be asking about services to support autistic learning. If I’m frank, asking about them slowing down the rest of the class is a bit pejorative. People on the autistic spectrum interact with the world differently to varying degrees than society thinks they should. Support usually implies assistance in navigating the world it does’t necessarily mean academic. People on the spectrum are more often than not quite intelligent. If a child has trouble keeping up with the curriculum, I think the kindest thing to do would be to put them in a class they an follow. Not only that, but why should the rest of the class be slowed down because of one student?
If I understand the methods being used, yes, I think that is far from Christian. What I think these schools are failing to do is to be honest with the parents. Many schools are dealing with very limited budgets and the cost of having a OT on staff is probably prohibitively expensive. They should be honestly and gently explaining the situation, or even better, be assisting with getting the assessments done in order for a public school to provide services. Why are Catholics promoting the Positive Partnerships for ASD/Disabilities. If a family only knows the Catholic Institution what happens there? Don’t promote Goodness Above all and positive partnerships appearing to be non selective.
