Depends, I have at times received a priest in my house. Did he bless the house without telling me? Maybe, probably…I don’t know.

An Eastern rite priest has blessed our home and many homes in the parish.
Wish he was still in my city. The exterior door frames were marked with chalk and dated. Awesome.

Probably, my humble home was built during the Rutherford B. Hayes administration in the shadow of a then-new Catholic parish erected to serve immigrants moving in at the time.

I believe it was a custom at the time, during the 1870’s, no?

A Priest at mass - said he’d gladly do it.
He’d be honored to bless your house - just make an appointment.
That’s why I posted this question -
It sounds like it’s a service - freely available to anyone to make good use of.

I’ve been in the Catholic church for over 30 years and only had one priest offer to bless homes. If you have a priest who is willing to do it, you are very fortunate.

Does blessed chalk during the Feast of the epiphany count? (Coming up around January 6th, 2019)!

For the Feast of Epiphany it is EO tradition that the priests come to visit the homes of his parish to bless them. This year I didn’t miss it, thank be to God!

Tough assignment in the United States.

One thing in a Greek village in a mediterranean climate where most all the parishioners live within the sound of the church’s bells. Another thing entirely in a more rigorous climate in January, where the parish extends throughout an entire metropolitan area.

I live in Romania and we have continental weather with real winters (or at least we used to have up until a few years when climate change became more severe; now we are not certain of how the winter will be like). Usually priests leave messages on the door of block of flats informing when they will come with the blessing. Many people, under the hippie-chic influence of the media, no longer want to let the priests in saying it is intrusive, none of the priests business, not a European cool thing, and other excuses. My parish priests travel a few block of flats and rings at every door who would like to receive a blessing. Together with the priest was a young deacon who carried the Holy Water. They probably had a car but in my area most blocks have 5 storeys and no elevator. Many priests do this in Bucharest. But many people still resent them and that is that. This makes me sad to think of how in other countries people want more Christian traditions and activity but they can’t have it because of societal customs and rules. We have it and we throw it away because it’s not cool enough. It is sad. May God forgive us.

Yes. Each time we have moved a priest has entered our home and blessed it. This will happen each time we move with no ifs, ands, or buts.

You NEVER know - who was there - before you.
I have heard of witches - who lived in houses, spirits stayed.
I’ve heard of a suicide - family moved, spirit stayed.
Many various things.

My parish priest came to bless my apartment after I had a burglar break into it. Another times I have asked our deacon and wife to come and last time my new parish priest. I cook a healthy lunch or dinner for them which is always appreciated.
