Hasn't abortion and now so-called "same-sex marriage" become an idol in the culture of hedonism?

It’s treated like a sacred cow in the hedonistic culture of death. Many seem to think they can’t live without abortions and now so-called “same-sex marriage”. Even many who claim to be Christians have jumped on this bandwagon of lies and confusion.

Unfortunately it feels like it. Earlier in the wk here in Texas you saw how this lady held the chamber in for a filibuster in regards to not having strict abortion laws. When they were going to vote after she had failed with the filibuster bc of the protests the chamber could not get a vote.

It just seems we’re in a society that were in a place that bad is seen as right. And good as seen as old and safe.

We’ve never truly been a Christian nation to begin with, but now I would call the USA a secular nation and the enemies want us gone. It goes back to pride. The oldest and most damning of all deadly sins. Some day, the worm will turn again. Look at ancient Israel people.

I think your observation is correct. I find a lot of people in our society only think of “me” and their happiness. It seems to have gotten worse very quickly, and I say this as someone in their early 20s.

A technically Catholic politician recently called abortion her “sacred ground” while describing herself as a “practicing and respectful Catholic”. Another politician of the same party filibustered to prevent a law from passing that would have placed limits on abortions. When the mainstream news media reported on it they called the law an attempt to take away a right and acted as if this person was some kind of hero. But not one time did the reporter ever say what an abortion actually is, that it’s the brutal murder of millions and millions of innocent babies. That’s why I say that abortion being treated like a sacred cow or idol by many in today’s world. We live in a time of infant sacrifice to the idol of contraception and abortion.

You are correct. Sad, isn’t it?

I was just reading a debate on abortion on another site, sickening I was just about the only one who was pro-life. Ugh.

I recently read a comment (not on this site) where someone said 'being gay is so cool! If I weren’t straight, I’d love to be gay!"
And people wonder why I homeschool my kids…

I would agree with you there, although I don’t believe idol is the correct term. They have become acceptable versus taboo, but I think it all does tend to head back to hedonism.

Many people want to live life according to their pleasures, a supposed care-free life in which they are in complete control. But such an ideal is never possible because once we achieve receiving all of the pleasures we wish for, free of all oppression or complications or consequences and it is all under our control, we’ll wish for something else, something that we see as better. Such a lifestyle will never be attainable because once we fill ourselves with all of those worldly things, we’ll still feel like something’s missing.

The road to hedonism leads to a never-ending cycle of seeking pleasure, attaining it, and then seeking pleasure again. One can never be satisfied.

And that seems to be the culture we are in currently. People want abortion to be acceptable because that means they can rid themselves of the consequences (the possibility of having a child) while still attaining the pleasure they seek (sex). People want same-sex marriage to be acceptable because that means they are not outside of natural law because gay marriage is “natural.” It is easier to pretend to be normal or pretend something is acceptable than to face the truth of our sins. We prefer to explain away our sins (abortion is okay because they are not really alive anyway or gay marriage is okay because it’s only fair that everyone should be allowed to love anyone they want) than to face the truth that we are wrong. It’s so easy to get caught up in the pleasure of the moment than to face the bitter truth.

Right. And they think they are getting rid of the baby, but science has recently discovered that the cells of the baby they thought they got rid of actually live in the mother’s brain for the rest of her life. How ironic is that? Here’s the article link by a website called Scientific American: Scientists Discover Children’s Cells Living in Mothers’ Brains.

That’s a broad assumption not backed up by factual information. Christians have fallen for some of the propaganda while others have not.

Peace,
