Hate crimes against Catholics up nearly 25 percent. Did Prop 8 play a role?

Homosexuals were victims of 5 murders, 6 rapes, 232 aggravated assaults, 501 simple assaults, and 419 cases of intimidation. The biggest increase was in California, immediately after the campaign against homosexuality and Proposition 8.

No data was collected about trans people - until the Hate Crimes legislation was passed recently, they weren’t counted - but at least 19 were murdered just from newspaper accounts of the most egregious crimes.

Using these percentages, if you take the reported statistics for violent crimes against the GLB population (1.51%) and applied it to Catholics in the same ratio…

It’s the equivalent of 81 Murders, 97 rapes, 3,764 Aggravated Assaults, and 8,129 simple Assaults.

12,072 people raped, murdered, or violently attacked. Versus 7.

You can see why claims of Catholics being victimised by gays ring just a little bit hollow, and why the claims that gays don’t need hate crimes protection - but Catholics do - tend to meet with outrage by the GLBs.

Thank you for the breakdown. Can you provide a link to the details by crime? I only found the general information.

I hadn’t commented on the statistics or conclusion of the article. Yes, there are a higher number of “hate crimes” against smaller percentage groups than Catholics.

I’m not in favor of hate crime legislation, because I think it is superfluous. I was just supplying some answers for a poster who wanted to know what the hate crimes were.

And as for “most persecuted group on the planet”, your evidence for this is?

Do gay groups agitate to have “habitual” Christians put to death instead of imprisoned in a nation where Christianity is already illegal? Do they require that any family member who’s made aware that they have a Christian in their family report that to the authorities within 24 hours or face 3 years in Jail? Do various Gay activists take out their rival activists in other organisations by denouncing them as secret Christians? Now take a look at the Christian-sponsored laws about to be put in place in Uganda.

In the USA, are Christians forbidden from marrying in all but a handful of states? Are there constitutional amendments in some states that forbid Christians from adopting? Are Christians routinely forbidden to see loved ones when they’re dying, and forbidden to make funeral arrangements for their partners?

Your views show either willful blindness, malicious mendacity, or far more likely, unfamiliarity with what actually happens in the world. Persecution of Christians is very real, especially in Indonesia, Sudan, and parts of China. Dozens, even hundreds of Christians are actually being martyred for their faith there. But to say that “Christians are the most persecuted group on the planet” defies credulity. Please read more on the subject. If someone says “385,000 Christians were martyred last year”, ask them where they got that number from. They made it up without evidence.
 
This is off the subject but estesbob, what is that a picture of next to your name on your post? It looks like Godzilla on my screen! I don’t know if there are any more ‘hate crimes’ these days. I do feel sad at the ignorant, bigoted comments that people make about Holy Mother Church when bishops stand up for her teachings, or we find out some of our religious and priests fall short (sometimes way short) of their callings. It doesn’t shake my faith however.

Thanks. I figured it was on the site somewhere, but I didn’t see it. I wasn’t doubting the veracity of your data; I just like to read the source. When I post data, I just include the link in the same post…it’s easier for the other members.
