I was watching a video where this one guy who was being interviewed said that a satanically blasphemous book was inspired by his god, and I audibly said under my teeth, “hate.” But even as I was saying this, I thought, “I don’t hate him, I hate his religion.” What is considered hatred of a person? Did I do that?
Does that fall under Psalm 139:21 or what? What’s the Church say?

Don’t watch that sort of video on the first place. No need to put yourself in a near occasion of sin.

Hatred of a person is the desire to erase that person, to spiritually exclude that person from God’s grace (at least in your mind), and to refuse to acknowledge the divine image in which that person was created. We all struggle with these intense emotions. That is part of human nature, but when it’s persistent and unrepentant, you’re coming dangerously close to excluding yourself from the Kingdom of Heaven.

Even Lucifer was created by God as a perfect creature, one of His brightest angels. Ezekiel 20:15 oBut he let PRIDE step in the way of his union with God and wanted to become God therefore was cast out of heaven. So there is nothing wrong in condemning the action but we are called to love the sinner.
