I think Bill Maher is hatful! Quotes:

Religion, to me, is a bureaucracy between man and God that I don’t need.

Suicide is man’s way of telling God, “You can’t fire me - I quit.”

The Bible looks like it started out as a game of Mad Libs.

The country has become much more conservative, partly because it’s been taken over by the religious right.

We are a nation that is unenlightened because of religion. I do believe that. I think religion stops people from thinking. I think it justified crazies.

We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That’s cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it’s not cowardly.

Why is that hate? Who is he hating? The rhetoric and tone is very similar to many comments on these threads directed at athiests, Muslims, and pro-abortion folks. But I see no reason to label these threads as hatred of anyone. He’s expressing political and religious opinions.

I can’t stand Bill Maher either! About time someone labels his stuff as hate radio.

I’ve concluded for a long time now that the term “hate” as a synonym for disagreement with the extreme left agenda reflects some projection. Way back in college, when students and teachers would turn red and bulge at the eyes and lean forward and their voices would tighten and alter strangely, and they would accuse all dissidents of “hate”, even though I agreed with their point of view then, I already could see that they were the ones with a certain propensity to hate those who disagreed with them. Since then I have been accused of “hate” for so many reasons it makes my head spin, and I take all accusations of hate, from anyone, toward anyone, with a grain of salt nowadays as a result.

No one said only those on one side or another is capable of hate. You are placing that spin on it. The OP was disconcerted by the nasty rhetoric and name-calling period. I agree. There are many loud voices in the media and online who are bolstering their audience numbers by pandering to people on the extreme left and right. In a bad economy with 2 wars going we don’t need anyone adding to the level of anxiety that many Americans are already feeling.

It gets to the point where I can barely stand to watch any of the 24-hour “news” channels with supposedly rationale adults painting anyone who does not agree with them as unAmerican or Nazi or Socialist or extremists of some stripe. Currently I am disgusted by all of the people showing up at town meetings and shouting down the other people so that citizens cannot ask their questions and get an answer from their elected representatives. I don’t care if someone disagrees with a rep’s position whether they be of any political party or of no party. They should at least be respectful of the democratic nature of our country and allow people to have their turn to speak.

My friend, if the devil was ugly, nobody’d want to follow him. Hate is a supremely dangerous and supremely addictive drug that Feels So Good when we take it…
…and because it has all these attributes, I have to remind myself to be more charitable to those it affects.

We feel terrific when the adrenaline is released and we can hate other races, other religious, other whatevers.

I got an e-mail the other day from a well-meaning Christian. It contained a link to a You-tube video that just Ripped the government blah-blah take back America blah-blah God-and-country blah, and it is our Christian duty to share that video with everyone we know.

Onward, Christian Soldiers…
Why do people fail to look past the smoke and mirrors and not see the big picture? Drugs can seem wonderful while you are on it and while you are seeking it, but after the rush is gone you’re left deaden. Hate sacrifices bits of your soul to create energy and thrills? But after all is sad and done, you’ll be so shriveled.

So what makes some people see the fault in that and others blind to it’s illusion and seduction?

Thanks be to God, I am being set free from that stuff as I continue to attend the Catholic Church (6 months now) and read Catholic materials and sources. Yes, there is a difference. The reasonableness, compassion and big-picture view is part of what drew me to the Catholic Church. I was a Protestant for 27 years and am quite familiar with the take-back-America crowd. It is much as StillWondering says, a refusal to examine one’s own conscience leading to an us-v.-them mentality. At least now no one is telling me I must submit to these folks. I hope I won’t get in trouble for anything I’ve said but it is what I have experienced.

Grace and peace to all,

Luminous Hope
It seems the answer to my previous question is sitting right before my eyes. God’s grace what makes me whine at hate dissemination and hurtful mentalities.

I praise you Lord, that you can teach a blind man like myself to see. Please help each of us who turn away from pride, arrogance, and deceit to be witnesses of your Love. Please provide us with strength so that we can maintain a clear view and be reminders to our family, friends, and neighbors that true Love is the resolution to the sufferings of this world. Thank you Lord.

Why is that hate? Who is he hating?
He called religious people stupid and crazy. If you ever listed to him he especially hates Christians. He doesn’t say anything about Muslims because he’s a coward.

He’s like most people on the far left; hatful.

So what? Do you think anyone is stupid? Have you ever characterized someone’s ideas as crazy? Does that mean you hate them?

If Maher said Muslims were crazy, would that mean he hates them?

:hypno:

Most of the hate seems to be on the Comedy Channel. They say vile things about former President Bush and about former Governor Sarah Palin.
