No, I am not talking about the kind that keep you ultra warm in winter. šŸ™‚

I love the look of ladies in hats. I even have a couple of nice hats but am reluctant because it seems no one wears them!
That isnā€™t entirely true, I have noticed a couple of women wearing them in church.

Even so, I am still very ā€œawareā€ when I am wearing one. Maybe feel like I am bringing attention to myself? Donā€™t want to do that!

My question isā€¦

Is it time to bring back the hat? Or tell the hat to scat?

I can never find a hat to fit ā€¦ seriously I have unusually thick hair and an unusually large head, so standard hat sizes do not fit.

Having said that, we had straw boaters in school, which I didnā€™t mind.

Interesting, 2 people say for the hat to scatā€¦
I must admit, I am curious for the reason.

Let me say that I do look nice in a hat, but more than anything I am a little self conscious. I know some people wear them for modesty reasons, but I just think they are very feminine.

I used to look at photos of my Grandmother and great-aunts wearing hats in the 40ā€™s and 50ā€™s and thought it looked so classy and elegant. It also seemed appropriate for Mass, instead of the lace head coverings so many people opt for.

It depends on what type and kind of hats. When I really am not in the mood to do my hair then it gets wet very quickly and put on a nice hat to cover up the bad hair days.

If you are talking about the hats that they used to wear in Dallas and Dynasty soap operaā€™s a definate no. Those are so boring and old fashion. A nice straw hat still looks good. It is quiet funny in the morning young ladies still wear beanies (looks like a winter cap) as the morning makes their hair go home so they wear it with a stocking underneath and when they get to work they comb it out.

Hats are something you can never get rid of. I mean most men wear caps there are those they you never see without one on.

I didnā€™t even see the poll - I tipped the scales by voting to bring ihats back (just in larger sizes as well, please!)

I love the movies of the 30s and 40s for that very reason. Think Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind or Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca - man did they give great hat! And I agree they would look so much better in Mass.

There is no ā€œdepends on the headā€ choice.

I, too, have trouble finding a decent hat because I have a HUGE head. All of our family has huge heads. The babies are examined for encephalitus upon birth, weā€™re that big-headed, and t-shirts have to be slit to accomodate us.

When I find a decent hat, I wear it out.

I LOVE wearing hats, but feel like youā€¦uncomfortable because it seems no one wears them!

Well, in my opinion you must be VERY smart. Big brains must have a larger head and what a gift from God that must be! šŸ˜‰

Hey LotusBlossomā€¦

Iā€™ll wear a hat Sunday if you wear a hat! That way you will know someone in NY is also wearing a hatā€¦šŸ˜‰

I donā€™t like hatsā€¦I loath them. Itā€™s one more thing to fuss with. And I am not in to fussy things. šŸ˜ƒ

For those that like them thoughā€¦***ā€œGo for it.ā€ Who cares what others think. ***

I only wear hats to keep my head warm because I look ridiculous in them. Iā€™ve never found one that doesnā€™t make me look like a mushroom. Iā€™m quite short and round with a very round face, so no hat made by man complements me. If I were tall and slim I might feel differently about it, but God had other plans for me. šŸ˜‰

I love hats on women and men. I wear a dress hat both to my classes and to Church, though as I man I remove it indoors. Iā€™d love women to wear hats. More than that I vote to bring back the mantilla.

I like Catherine Marshall, and read most of her books some time ago. I think it was in her autobiography of her life and marriage, A Man Called Peter, where she writes a delightful story about purchasing an expensive hat with most of the very little money she had, to wear while she persuaded [successfully] a wealthy businessman to donate money to the poor Appalacian schoolchildren she was working with. (Marshall later went on to write the novel, Christy, which the movie/TV show comes from).

AMEN!!! I have been looking to buy a mantilla for mass. Part of me thinks folks will stare at me for it, but the other part of me thinksā€¦maybe they donā€™t have the courage to start a trend and I would be helping them get over it.

That is very interesting.

I have never had the desire to wear a mantilla. I think that part of me associates it with a ā€œhabitā€ that the women in religious orders wear. I guess as a wife and mom I just feel like it should be reserved for them. I have no problem with others wearing them, but you are right, I donā€™t see many who do still.

I say, if you want, go for it!

My MIL told me that in Australia the hat industry died out almost overnight when Catholic women stopped wearing hats to Mass. I think it would be lovely if we all still dressed up formally for Mass and topped it off with a hat. My MIL thinks I am insane - she was not at all sorry to see hats go out of fashion.

If I were braver I would wear a hat more often. I do wear a cap whenever I go outside but I donā€™t think that really counts as a Hat with a capital H. I have a lovely wide straw hat too but itā€™s not as practical - it flies off in the wind and then I have to do the mad dash along the beach or wherever to retrieve it. Beauty is painā€¦but as a Mum I have to be plain old practical. Boring!

I donā€™t like wearing hats but I think they look beautiful. I wear a hat in winter when itā€™s cold and in summer to keep off the sun but once autumn/spring comes it is such a relief to get rid of the hat. I just donā€™t like the feeling of something on my head (apart from hair, of course!).
