((((thistle)))))… we always have choices to make- and even the worst of the worst can seek and plead God’s Divine mercy through His Son Jesus Christ…many “ghosts” don’t go into God’s light for fear of being punished-… their fear keeps them from feeling and knowing God’s Love…I suspect they would not feel any love from you either-what a shame that you could help redirect a lost soul simply by reflecting the love of God you feel-but wouldn’t because you’ve already judged them to be not of God…think about it…God knows His own… leave the absolutes to Him…God Bless

I believe the poster embraces the Faith with a great zeal by his adherence to the Catechism. It is good and when I went to school (parochial) that is the perception I had…still have.

However, we STILL are discovering other facets of the “beyond.” As long as they do not contradict, demean or pre-empt the Catechism they deserve to be researched. I think.

We do NOT know it all yet…not while we are warm-blooded, breathing human beings.

The Catechism lays out the pathway to disciplining our carnal nature and become closer to God. There are STILL unknown areas and we are finding more mysteries as we move along.

True, some of these probings can be foreboding but some can be helpful as well.

If “ghosts” are indeed the isolated souls that have not yet been brought to the Light it could also be ANOTHER manifestation of God’s mercy. How? Suppose such a soul is “marooned” in a local dimension and has absolutely NOTHING to carry with him/her to the Light as meritorious such as a Mass or prayers for receiving a more merciful judgment…then it makes "spiritual " sense (in my way of thinking) that the “ghost” is being allowed to make a sort of “plea” to those of the living.

If we look at that other dimension as a “waiting room” for help from the living it could make some kind of “mystical” sense.

Could be those “ghosts” have not had any prayers or Masses said for them for generations…but a generation of the future can have a person pray for that “anonymous” soul and can have something of worth as he/she approaches the Light.

That soul could be on the brink of Purgatory or Hell and a Mass or prayers eventhough from an anonymous living person could allow that person to go onto his/her restitution via Purgatory and thereby reagain HOPE.

…this is very disturbing that thoughts are being so easily detoured to demons and satan and exorcism-I tried to tell you that doing so is exactly why those who do, should NOT EVEN DISCUSS such things-you DO find what you seek…if you seek God in all things- you will find Him…but if you seek satan-he will be there to steer you in his direction-you think you are doing research, but in reality he is taking over your thoughts and perceptions and in fact “coloring your world”…I urge you to not give in to this temptation/fascination and say prayers of protection that you only accept what comes through God and His LOVE…leave such books and thoughts alone- he only has power in your life if you give it to him-… you are susceptible and like a smorgasboard for lower entities when you focus on and absorb such readings…this is how insideous such things really are-you find yourself drawn to finding more and more info-do you believe it is God that wants your eyes and mind focused on the dark and evil?..Jesus said “get thee behind me…”- he didn’t say stay in front of me so I can keep my eyes on you…focus on God’s Love, focus on Jesus as God’s Love for us-focus on being surrounded by and reflecting that love for others that are both in body and in spirit…(((((hugs))))) God Bless

^ I’ve found that the more I’ve read about demons and their interactions with us, the less I fear them. God is in control and only allows demons to affect us for a greater good. Don’t give the devil too much credit by being too scared of him! Certain saints have talked a whole lot about him. He isn’t going to pop up and possess you just because you talk about him… that’s old-wives tale, campfire scare stuff.

We should fear Satan like we fear sin, but not be terrified of either. Because in Christ, we will conquer.

Morbid curiosity can be an issue (as with ANY subject), and getting into any kind of occult practice is clearly a big no-no. But discussing Orthodox teachings/experiences with devils or the possibility of, say, ghosts having something to do with purgatory doesn’t seem to be a problem.

“I do not fear Satan half so much as I fear those who fear him.” - St. Teresa of Avila.

JCnMe, I would highly recommend Fr. Amorth’s book. Fr. Amorth is the head exorcist of Rome. He makes the case that if more people knew about Satan’s works, there wouldn’t be such a shortage of exorcists in the Church.

This interview with Cardinal Cottier from 2004 is of interest too:

"We must take the devil very seriously, but we must not think that he is omnipotent. There are people who have an irrational fear of the devil.

Christian confidence, which is nourished with prayer, humility and penance, must be above all confidence in the love of the Father. And this love is stronger than all. We must have the consciousness that the mercy of God is so great as to surmount all obstacles."

((((jdmayer))))…I thank you for your concern for me- but I am very aware and confident in what I know to be true…I don’t have any fear of such things-I do however have deep concern for those who consider it “necessary” to know…what better way to afront God than by convincing His children who profess to love God that they need to focus on satan’s works… it is one thing to seek God after an unintentional demonic experience(as is the case with many Saints) - it is quite another to actively pursue such information and detail after already professing God is foremost in your life-the latter is by choice and free will… it is an open invitation that will be answered by being conditioned to “seeing” him(satan and his dominion) around every corner and in everything-…again- those that are the most intrigued and fascinated and"driven’ to know more- are the most susceptible …and should run-not walk to ask God’s protection and intervention in this diversion and division of spiritual focus-all eyes should be on God and His Son-God and His Love is who you must seek in everything-…and you will find Him -and will only see Him when you do…(((((hugs))))) God Bless

It is not a question of ignoring the information you give because that information is wrong information and totally contrary to Church teachings. When someone dies their soul is immediately judged. If you are a Catholic you must accept that.
I forget what saint. I think Fuastina but I might be wrong. The Saint I am talking about was female. She was always visited by souls in Purgatory, EWTN had a show on that saint and mentioned it!!! EWTN is true to the church teachings. I am as Catholic as they come and I believe that. read about the saints. I think it was St. Faustina but I am not sure. Scoob.

“Those who are awake and alert in Christ, endowed with discernment and wisdom, must recognize that the arch-enemy of Christ is staging a strategic move to deceive and destroy people.* The role of the redeemed is to wake up, sounds a call to arms, and actively wage war against these schemes in teh name and power of God.* Our purpose is not to prevent the final manifestation of evil, as allowed by God.* Our purpose is redemptive, to allow the Holy Spirit to wrench people free from the snares of Satan’s desceptions.” ~From “The Believers Guide to Spiritual Warfare” by Thomas B. White"

“…At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.* Five of them were foollish, and five were wise.* The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.* The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.” Mt 25:1-4

Satan is the god of this world and. We would be like the unwise virgins if we were to go out and live in this world without taking any knowledge with us. We should seek knowledge about both Jesus and his enemy. Jesus so that we can be redeemed and Satan so that we can discern spiritual attacks, seeing as Jesus did, and act as Jesus would.

This risk is to obsess about demons around every corner, but the solution for such people to save themselves is always prayer. Extra prayer never hurt anyone.

A person who keeps reading in faith will find that most books discussing spiritual warefare will take into account psychological reasoning and discernment. In the end the solution to spiritual warfare is prayer. So even if there is no spiritual component to whatever a person is praying for I have to conclude that an extra prayer never hurt anyone.

It is important for all who read such things to balance it with bible reading. Look up the scriptures that are mentioned, read them and meditate on them. Let the attacks of Satan draw you closer to scripture and through scripture closer to Jesus and through a relationship with Jesus you will be free’d from the attacks of the evil one.

God Bless,
Sarah
