I know that everyone between 18 and 59 should fast and abstain on Ash Wednesday (and Good Friday). My question is does anyone know the exact dispensations? I am a nursing mother of twin infants and am not sure what is expected. My husband thinks I’m crazy to consider fasting - what do you all think?

The Church has clearly said fasting is done “health permitting” - that means babies too!

Do what you feel is safe for yours and your babies’ health. Maybe do something else as penance/abstinance if you are so inclined and like the idea…

**Those who are excused from fast or abstinence **Besides those outside the age limits, those of unsound mind, the sick, the frail, pregnant or nursing women according to need for meat or nourishment, manual laborers according to need, guests at a meal who cannot excuse themselves without giving great offense or causing enmity and other situations of moral or physical impossibility to observe the penitential discipline.

Whoa there. You’re suggesting that babies fast too? I hope not. There is no reason to impose on anyone who has not reached the age of reason, who cannot possibly understand.
