I used to have a link to a brief article by a Catholic apologist that included an answer to the evangelical “Are you saved?” question. The answer included the phrases in the thread title, with supporting Scripture citations, mostly from the writings of Paul. Does anyone know off the top of your head where I could find that again? That was a couple computers ago.

I definitely remember reading the same thing because the same flow of ideas come to mind when I’m presented with the “once saved, always saved” situation.

Something about the author comparing the Church to a great ship that we’re all on. We hop on the ship - so we were saved. Then we are aboard the ship sailing toward the new heaven and the new earth - so we are being saved. And the ship will come into harbor - we will be saved. But all this precludes the fact that we do not jump off the ship (sin, or knowingly and willingly reject our salvation)

I really think it was an article from the Catholic Answers website: catholic.com/quickquestions/how-should-a-catholic-reply-to-the-question-have-you-been-saved

It’s by Jim Blackburn, and in fact, he uses almost exactly the same terminology that you present in your title to this thread.

Thanks, Phil and G-l-y. I had also found another site after my last post from yesterday evening that was in even more detail.

The reason why I was suddenly interested in this ties in with my thread on Romans. I was researching the concept of salvation from Romans 1:16, and I ran across some notes from the Scofield Reference Bible (anathema to Catholics! 😛 ) that sounded almost exactly the same as what I remember the Catholic apologists saying. Now I can make a detailed comparison.
