Have I failed as a Catholic?

It seems as a Catholic I am feeling a failure rather often. Daily Mass, daily rosary, the Divine Mercy chaplet, the Liturgy of the Hours, and reading Scripture all wear me out. I feel like I can’t keep up! On my Catholic radio station there was a priest suggesting that people pray the rosary three times a day! I want to hold fast to the Church, but when is enough good enough? I love God and want to please him.

Just reading the prayer regimen you’ve outlined wears me out. There is no need to take on so many devotions every day, day in and day out. The value of daily Mass for anyone who can go is inestimable, so I recommend that all Catholics go as often as they can to daily Mass. After that, pick a private devotion based on what you’re drawn to and concentrate on praying that as well as you can whenever you’re able. As for the rest, laypeople have different responsibilities than priests or religious and so may not be able to take on multiple devotions or to pray the rosary three times a day. Do what you can and trust that God will be pleased.
