I have the house to myself for a week. It’s only been a few days, and it’s already very lonely. I do have two dogs with me, so better than nothing for sure. But yeah, I’m really sad right now. I’m working from home currently, so I don’t even get out of the house for work or anything… plus my closest friends are all either out of town or otherwise occupied (two of them have a newborn, praise the Lord), well my wife will be back in 4 days or so, but that seems like so far away… I’m already beginning to talk to myself out of loneliness!!! I did go to Mass today but it’s only an hour…
I will say this, though, there HAS been one positive aspect about this time. I think I really learned a big time lesson about how the widowed and/or family-less/friend-less (are those words?) must feel. It has really encouraged me to get involved with this program they have in my parish where they set you up to visit with a lonely person in a nursing home. So I’m glad some good has come out of it in the sense that it will increase my compassion for people in such situations.
