Have the Maronites Always Stood Up for the Consecration of the Mass or Is Standing for the Consecration a Newer Renovation?

Is standing up for the Consecration a traditional Maronite practice or a newer renovation? If it is a renovation, when did it start? with Vatican II perhaps? Your help is greatly appreciated.

As an Oriental Church, the lay people traditionally do not kneel during the anaphora. The priest will kneel during the Epiclesis, however.

This is one of the few things that was correctly restored. The practice of kneeling in general was one of the “old” latinizations that crept in by the late 16th century.

I wouldn’t give that Council credit for the restoration, though. It was one of the many things that was part of the liturgical restoration envisioned in the early 20th century. Sadly, two world wars (and a variety of other political issues) interfered with a good portion of that project.
