About 15 years ago or so, my parents, now in their 80s, retired and decided to move to a nicer climate; Anchorage Alaska. They love it there, but they are away from all us kids.

But that was then and this is now.

My mother lost her eyesight a number of years ago so can no longer drive. She has also developed a series of other health problems not uncommon for people in their 80s.

Now, over the last few weeks, my father has suffered a series of fairly mild heart attacks. He is on oxygen 24 hours a day. My sister flew up immediately and has been helping them both since.

They have finally, after much cajoling, decided to move back down near some of us kids for better health care and a milder climate. But it is going to be a difficult trip.

My father is flying down in a few days. I will be flying up there in a couple of days to drive my mother down in their car via the Alaska Highway. That is a 2800 mile trip.

Normally, I am pretty optimistic. But I now have this unusual sense of anxiety. I am very worried.

I ask for prayers for my parents health and safe travels for all of us.

This December will be their 60th wedding anniversary. I also ask for prayers that my parents will be able to see and celebrate 60 years of marriage.

Thank you all in advance.

I pray that your parents will be safe and that God will help them in their needs.

Dear Lord, please hear our prayers for Richard’s parents and all their needs and intentions.
What a great date - 60 years married! Please convey my delighted congratulations. That IS something!
May you all travel safe and have a joyous celebration and settling down and your Mum and Dad’s adjustment to a new life…

Lord Jesus, give this family the strength to complete this new journey and the strength for the many journies in their future. I pray for the safety of you and your Mother on your long trip. I pray for the health of both of your parents, and I pray for all of your family members who will be assisting in their care.

Amen

Thank you all very much.

I leave for the airport in a few hours and will be off the boards here for a few days.

Thank you all for your prayers. My mother and I returned home safely from the drive yesterday and was was exhausted.

The move has gone well so far and my parents do not seem to be as bad off as I originally feared.

But it does look like they will be moving in with me. That should prove to be interesting.:juggle:

Heavenly Father, we give thanks to you always for the blessings you have given us. Thank you for the gift of family. Thank you for being our guide to help us get through our troubles in this life. Thank you for watching over Richard and his mother during their long travels. Please bless Richard and his family, particularly his aging parents. May you bless Richard with all of the wisdom, patience, and love that he needs to care for his parents, who may be moving in with him. May you bless his parents, who are aging. May you allow them to see and enjoy their 60th wedding anniversary, as well as many more anniversaries to come. All of this I pray in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Kept in prayer…

Richard, in one instant, the Lord loves your parents more than all of the love in this world since creation. He made sure that, as they were loving parents in imitation of Christ and Mary, they would have beautiful children who would reflect the Savior’s and His mother’s love back upon them. Release all of your anxiety into the grasp of Christ, who will bear it for you. Take some recordings of the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet and a blessed trip it will be.

I will be praying for your journey of love.

Christ’s peace.
