Have you always been catholic or are you a convert through RCIA?

Is there a manual that they use for RCIA? Where do you get one?

I’m a convert.

guycatholic, I’d ask your nearest church office. I think different parishes may do things differently. Also, it depends on who’s doing it. I’m trying to sit through the RCIA again, and am finding it to be quite different than when I originally took it.
Oh, and I joined the church at the Easter Vigil 1997.

I am a cradle Catholic (both parents cradle Catholics as well). DH converted as an adult, after doing his own research into Catholicism. (He was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness, but was never baptized. His mother left the JW’s years ago and he was told that if he became baptized he could NEVER speak to her again - they had been about to kick her out when she left anyway. He decided that any religion that would require him to never speak to his mother again could not be the true faith.)

We like to say that we have the best of both worlds in our family - the zeal of a convert for the faith, coupled with the lifetime faith of a cradle Catholic, and my familiarity with such things as First Confession, First Communion, and Confirmation for children. (I met DH when DSD, his daughter, was 5, so she was already baptized. DH’s first marriage was declared invalid.)

I am a cradle Catholic and have attended a Catholic school from 1st grade all the way through college, from which I graduated this past spring. My faith and the faith of my family has particularly grown in the past 8 years or so, especially when my dad entered diaconate formation and was ordained a deacon 2 years ago. My college was also quite Catholic (and proud of it), and being surrounded by that and peers who thought that way was an additional help.

I now have a job working for a parish, so I’m pretty happy being Catholic and grateful for my upbringing!
