Hi,

Have any of you ever asked God to choose your spouse for you? If so, what were the circumstances and how did you know that he or she was the right one?

In a way yes… I am not married yet, but was listening to talks at the conference last weekend, and heard that you pray your way into marriage… it must be very true because God’s prayer and love is the strongest and once there is a spiritual bond, then all the rest will follow.

When I first heard about praying about your future spouse, I was already in my current relationship. Since then, I have been praying for God’s confirmation in this man being my future spouse, but He hasn’t given a specific answer yet! 🙂 What’s even more awesome is hearing about parents who pray for their children’s future spouses - I know a family who knew who their daughter was going to marry years before they even started going out! They got married two years ago. 👍

Yes, I have asked God to lead me to him, or him to me, whenever He feels the time is right. I’m actually pretty conscious of preparing myself for that person… and at times I find myself telling God “Ok, I am ready now!” thinking that’s what He’s waiting for - me to know and feel that I’m ready. I get the sense though that the time isn’t quite right yet 🙂

One thing I discoverd is that realizing that God knows who He has in mind for me takes away a LOT of stress and pressure for me to hunt him down myself. If I focus on doing what I believe God wants me to do, and if I’m meant to be married, then God will take care of it. And that’s the only way I want it 🙂 I just have to keep reminding myself of that, and I consider that as part of my prayer to God - having the faith that He will take care of it.

I ask God nightly to lead me to the right person for marriage. I think He has, but I’m not married yet. So, the future will tell.

Nice question.

I am already married but I have been praying for my children’s future spouses since birth.

I ask frequently, but I haven’t had an answer yet. Given my age, it just may that God’s answer will be “Sorry, I want you single”. 😉

Yes - I prayed that God would lead me to the right person and I know He has blessed me in my marriage. I was a nominal Catholic and Christian and was dating all the wrong people. I fell to my knees one night in frustration asking God to help me find a suitable spouse. He took the scales off my eyes and helped me see that one of my friends from school is my match. Before that, I was too self-absorbed and shallow to see the goodness in this person and how much he did actually love me.

While my husband isn’t a Catholic (I wouldn’t necessarily condone that now) he and his family because they are a little anti-Catholic, they helped me to really get down to what and why I believed. I’m a MUCH better Catholic because of it. It lead me to my reversion to the Truth found in the Church. Now my husband is talking about RCIA and is participating in Mass, I pray he is really considering conversion.

If you pray to God to help you find a spouse, if marriage is part of your plan in life, you will know when you find him or her. It will feel natural and right because you’ll be participating in God’s plan for you.

Good luck and may God reward you for asking for His help!

Yes, I prayed for years to find a good husband, and God brought us together in His own good time. Now we have three children–two teenagers and a twenty-yr-old–and I’m praying that if it’s God’s will that they marry, He send them good spouses.

Oh yeah. And frankly, I’m still waiting. God’s schedule is His own, and I can’t do a durn thing about it. I must be the only eligible female this side of teh Mississippi who doesn’t even have dates.

I met and married my husband prior to my conversion :getholy: so I was unaware of the blessings available to me through prayer. Therefore, I never did and now I wish I would have! If you are not already married, take this advice - ask God for help in finding your future spouse!! Everything about our lives is in good hands when we ask God to help us. :gopray:

Yes, I did…but I didn’t get one.
Gotta play the hand you get dealt, and I came up short an ace…that’s life.

I pray for my future husband every day at the elevation of the Host and the Chalice at Mass as I was told that that is the most powerful and grace-filled time on earth when Jesus comes among us (I also pray for the souls in Purgatory, all those who’ll die in a state of mortal sin today and friends who do not yet know the love of God at that time although sometimes my list is curtailed if the elevation time is short!). I’ve been doing so for the last five years. I’d love to know that my future husband was praying for me every day before I knew him so I’m sure my future hub-a-dub-dub would like it too!!

Nope, there’s at least one more – me. 😃

Well…twice I asked God if I had a religious calling and twice He sent me a husband…Nearly 27 years with one and 13 1/2 w/ the present…I guess that’s enough to say the right choices were made…😉

Very well said! I agree with you because I feel ready to meet someone, but I always try to keep in mind that God will find me someone for me, if that’s what he wants for me… 😉

I believe if you pray that you marry a good spouse and you are a good person, God will find you a good spouse.

I wonder how many people who lust for another parishioner actually waste time praying they get to date the person they desire.

Yes.

I formally put it in God’s hands. I was too busy at work to think about marriage. Work was weird with lots of travel.

Started at a new place. Met this cute girl. We had just barely started dating when she changed jobs - new location. I changed jobs and by a “complete coincidence” [coincidence is when God chooses to work anonymously], my new job was one block away from where her new job was. (There was no way I could have controlled that.) [And also one block away from where I had just started grad school.]

And that was in 1970. We were married in 1971. And we’re still married. And we still talk about the strange circumstances of our meeting. We were both at that company and as soon as we had met, we were both gone from there. It was “as if” the company only existed to provide us a place to “intersect” and then we were gone from there.

Recently we ran into another married couple and they said they had met through “Ave Maria Singles”. www.avemariasingles.com I guess that venue also works.

Everybody I know has a totally different story. From eHarmony to Starbucks (two couples) to grad school. When I was single and gypsying around the world, I used to ask my friends how they met their spouses. There were no limit to the kinds of stories.
