If so, I would like to know how your life (spirituality) has changed?

It seems the Holy Spirit is “telling” me that various activities, such as praying to the saints, are no longer all that “imperative”… Or is it just my feelings? I still pray to saints once in awhile, but seem to feel more power in praying to Jesus… (the rosary, etc.)…

Would like to hear stories of any kind on this subject. Thanks.

Don’t be surprised if you get flogged here.

I had something similar happen and it was a very confusing and distressing period. I began working with a Spiritual Director at that time because I was so distressed over it.

The one thing to remember - no matter what feedback you get here - is that we pray as we can - not as we can’t. Keep listening for the Holy Spirit and follow God’s call in your life.

The saints are part of our Catholic Christian community. We do not have to ignore them.

Of course, if all we did was pray to saints then it would not be right.

I pray a lot directly to the Lord, and there are times when I feel I need a friend in Heaven to relate to, and I pray to a particular saint to intercede for me. We glorify God when we do this, as His Grace is what sanctified them.

Holy Spirit or not, I have never been a huge saint pray-er. My prayers most all of my life, were as my Grandmother taught me. A loving conversation between Father and Child. I pray the Our Father, (usually I open my prayer with it), and I pray the Hail Mary, Apostles Creed, etc. but most of my prayers are more personal and “intimate”. I feel so much closer to God when I pray that way. As for the Saints, I have joined the St. Monica thread here on CAF, for a personal special intention. And just recently through some interesting turns of events have been compelled to pray/sing St. Francis’s “Make me a channel of your peace.” song/prayer. (The tune popped into my head about a month ago, couldn’t shake it, despite not remembering the words…) The prayer itself showed up one day, unsuspectingly, in a book I was reading… Now, before I get out of bed in the morning, I pray it.

Well, if you pray the Rosary, that is a biggest thing I would love to pray. Virgin Mary is above all Saints. Never stop praying the Rosary for any reason.

To briefly share with you, I do pray to saints for their intercession. The ones that has helped me a lot are: Saint Jude, Saint Rita, Saint Therese Of the Child Jesus …and other saints and most important of all Virgin Mary.

Perhaps you are simply being called to pray, more directly… to the Holy Spirit. That’s wonderful! What a gift!

But please keep in mind, that prayer to various saints in no way detracts from Gods Honor. The saints give glory to God… face to face. When you pray to a saint, you are simply asking for his or her intercession before Almighty God. Whatever graces are obtained… it is always correct to give thanks to God.

A good example is the Chaplet of St. Therese. The chaplet consists of 24 “Glory Be’s”. The 24 is in memory of the 24 years of St. Therese earthly life. However, the “Glory Be’s” are prayers to God.

There’s lots of great advice in this thread already.

I can tell you that not so long ago, I hardly ever prayed the Rosary and I never prayed for saints to intercede for me. I didn’t feel it was wrong, I just didn’t feel compelled to do so. Then, I started reading and learning more about our beautiful Catholic faith, and started asking for Mary and the saints to intercede for me and my loved ones. Since then my faith has been strengthened – it was always strong, but there’s a newness to it…it feels more beautiful, as if jewels have been added to it. I know that probably sounds ridiculous, but I’m having a hard time describing it. There’s nothing wrong with praying directly to God, but in praying for the intercession of Mary and the saints, we have that many more prayers going to God for our benefit – and that’s a beautiful thing!
