Has anyone seen this season of the Duggars? I just love this family. Some of their ‘rules’ are of course different to many of us–such as girls not being permitted to wear pants in the family, or cutting their hair, etc…but what I adore about this family, is how happy and well adjusted all the kids seem…emphasis on happy.

I watched an episode today where their oldest, Joshua, is now engaged…and what a refreshing couple he and his fiancee make. No kissing…just hand holding. He holds the door for her everywhere…it reminds me of how my husband and I were dating…although, we did kiss.:o But, it is so refreshing to see a family who teaches strong Godly values about saving sex for marriage, and how they take a chaperone with them on their dates.

I think there is just something so special about this family.🙂

I have learned that there are mixed feelings about the Duggars here… **
 
I’m with Malia and am interested to see responses; I’ve also read many posts here in disagreement with some of their practices/beliefs.

We were just having lunch with some Protestant Evangelical friends (I converted from that to Catholicism) and they were talking in admiration about this family. I’ve seen a few of the episodes on Discovery (think that’s what it is - at in-laws’ - we don’t have cable) and I agree. Now, of course, it’s all edited TV, so my opinion’s just on what they choose to show, but their children seem remarkably happy. They seem to get along better than any family I’ve seen in real life. Actually, I did know a family growing up (they ended up with “only” 11 children, I believe), and there were loving relationships all around. I have a hard time not envying that. It seems that as a family, their focus is on Christ. No one can be 24/7 like that, I’m sure, but it’s very inspiring and uplifting. Also, shocking!

I’m confident that even w/ negative views of their family, having them on TV makes some viewers wonder what (or Who 🙂 ) makes their family so different.

I really like the Duggars and am in awe of big family’s in general. Course in my family, there were only 2 of us kids … . 🙂

oh Malia, i love when Bama uses the popcorn guy. it’s almost always the funniest part of the thread. now you’re getting to be a comedian, too.

because they have offered their family up for public consumption, it’s fair that i may form an opinion of them. furthermore i think my opinion is based on discernment and not judgnment. here it is: the Duggar parents send off too many clues of questionable motives concerned with ***numbers ***of children, and not enough evidence for sincere ***respect for the unique dignity ***of the person.

WhateverGirl, i submit: part of what many people love about the Duggars is their material wealth and their astonishing organization of said material wealth: the stores of goods, pantries of food, uniformed children, hand built fortress, violins.

you can call me a crank, but the following is true: i know large families Catholic families (10, 12 or more children) who would LOVE just a millionth of the emotional support the Duggars receive. but because they are less materially gifted, less trim, less neat and crisp, their organizational skills go unnoticed. their happy children are pittied. they’re held in a certain suspicion of the supposed imprudence at having such a large families with so few resources.

instead of ‘blessed’ they’re ‘nuts.’

and this reaction is by other Catholic families.

in a nutshell: if the Duggar’s children were as slightly threadbared and hand-me-downed as some of the large families that I know, the world wouldn’t love them so much.

these are my thoughts on the Duggar parents. i’m not gonna argue. i would hope though, to be spared ad hominum attacks. (and no more severed horse heads in my bed, either.)
 
**I have to say I was thrilled when I found out that I get to watch an hour of Duggars every Monday! That is my only tv night and it just got way better!!!😃 **
 
I have to give credit where credit is due…They have what 17 almost 18 kids… they homeschool, they pray together, they are organized as heck… and good for them for not falling into secularized America!!! What I think is sad is the oldest girl doesn’t have alot to do with the rest of the family. Overall… I think they are decent people and raising the kids right. And… I LOVE their house!!!

Me too…it’s HUGE. But they need the room. lol
I think that no family can be perfect…it’s not in the perfection, it’s in the striving to follow God, that I see in them. They have said numerous times that they only want to follow what God would have them do…and if that is giving them as many children as possible, then that is what they’re doing. Now, some of the rules are a bit strict…but, overall, they seem to be doing a lot of good with their kids. 🙂

I def think it’s nice that oldest Duggar kid is being so publicly chaste.

Personally, I never enjoyed the show. 🤷 The whole wean a kid automatically at 6 months just so we can have another right away is just not my style. Too many things about their family annoy me, but I totally respect that they have a big fam and are so open and wholesome and poster-child-y. Doesn’t mean I have to buy the poster…or watch the show 😃 We don’t even have cable anymore anyways so it’s whatev.
 
Personally, it’s not for me (I have one, a honeymoon baby)- but if it really works for them, then what’s wrong with it? That’s my attitude.

What I find even more strange is the bizzare and hostile attitude some people have towards people with more than 1.7 children (or whatever it is).

My guess is that their bodies, God and common sense are shaming them and they don’t like having their conscience wag its finger at them and instead they turn the rage towards others.

Can anyone tell me on which episode Michelle Duggar said she did this? Because I’ve watched them all and maybe I’m wigging out or something but I never have heard her say that?

I’m under the impression that they do absolutely nothing to keep track of fertility or avoid pregnancy at all, and I’m also under the impression that Michelle doesn’t nurse exclusively (seen bottles being given by siblings) so I’m thinking her fertility would prob come back regardless of the six month thing anyway?

I’m leaning towards it being a net rumor because I’ve seen no one ever be able to substantiate it:shrug: :confused:

( we went down this path last Duggar thread and I never got an answer so I’m quite curious to know if anyone KNOWS for sure it’s true)
