By people in charge of it, yes. The pastor of the parish/parish for most of my youth was quite the authoritarian and frankly it’s just a series of bad memories at this point. He later was found to have mismanaged money at the parish where my parents still belong to and the parish is now in debt to the tune of millions.
A priest with whom I was personally acquainted with in college (even spent an Easter day with him) was later arrested and pled guilty for his role in a kiddie porn ring.
My fiance was an organist at a church in his teenage years and we discovered only recently that the priest that ultimately fired him from that job (for very vague reasons) was later convicted for serial child molestation. My fiance also was the son of a former priest himself and their family was treated horribly and pretty much had to skip from parish to parish each weekend. It was considered so bad to “steal” a man out of the priesthood that no parish community was really willing to tolerate their presence for any length of time.
People let you down.
