Hi Dave, thanks for your patience with me. Since, my brain injury I have been relearning everything. Guess how much fun it is to do potty training again at 57 lol. Some days I can not even walk straight. The other day I was painting a tool box I gained from my uncle Eddy passing away. The neighbor lady wanted her tackle box painted. So, I let her 10 year old son paint it. I did not pay close notice of what he was doing until after I saw another neighbors cat painted sunshine yellow walk out the garage door. I knew who the neighbor was that own that cat and gave her a call, only to find out that the cat has one of those easy access doors to get back into the house. The cat needless to say entered her house and painted her husbands easy chair which she wanted to get rid of anyways. lol
I see no problem with culture influencing the Bible writers because:
I see revelation as progressive — even now we look into a mirror dimly.
I think all of the Bible was influenced by surround cultures — one could argue that Moses learned his monotheism from Egypt.
Thus NT writers using the afterlife views of their culture is not a problem for me.
When I quote the OT with NT understanding I am simply seeing “hints” of NT understandings in those OT passages.
